Pay the fee and do as you please. Day use is 15$. I like the way no one bothers you. I pulled down real close to the water and it was no problem. Need a 4x4 to do that though. Caught 6 bass in 4hrs.

Not much of a lake anymore but a great camping area. Wildlife galore, turkeys, deer, and rabbits. You can also hear the coyotes howling at night and if you get unlucky your camp will be visited by the wild boar. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice camp experience with electrical outlets

The place was beautiful! The only part is the up keep needs some help. If there was better upkeep, and more employees, I would say 5star!

Disappointed that more resources aren't devoted to this park. McCandless area had horseshoe pits taken out, no more grass lawn, large sections of fence missing, no volleyball net... Monterey County needs to up their game. Too little staff currently to take care of such large grounds.

Cheap kayak rentals, awesome campgrounds. Watch out for gopher and rattle snakes though! The lake is literally popping with fish, have never seen more fish breaching the top of the water in my entire life! The 4/5 is due to the algae bloom in the lake. Not dangerous to my knowledge but I wouldn't eat the fish (pardon my ignorance if it doesn't make a difference) I still swam in the water... just wish it was clear!
