Lake Sweetwater

Overview

Lake Sweetwater offers a serene and unpretentious escape for RV travelers looking to experience the rugged beauty of West Texas. Managed by the City of Sweetwater, this municipal park centers around a 630-acre reservoir that provides a refreshing oasis amidst the rolling high plains. It serves as a quiet, natural alternative to busy highway stops, inviting visitors to slow down, breathe the fresh air, and enjoy the expansive West Texas horizons that define this region.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the heart of Nolan County, the park is located just a short drive southeast of the city of Sweetwater, providing easy access to supplies while maintaining a sense of seclusion. The surrounding landscape is characterized by semi-arid terrain and the iconic silhouettes of wind turbines that dot the hillsides. Because the park sits directly on the shoreline, guests can enjoy scenic lakefront views that transition into vibrant, colorful sunsets over the water every single evening.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV area provides the essential comforts needed for a functional and comfortable stay. Travelers will find water and electrical hookups at various sites, allowing for a reliable setup while enjoying the outdoors. The park facilities are designed to support an active lifestyle, featuring several key assets:

  • A 9-hole municipal golf course located right on the property.
  • Multiple boat ramps and fishing piers for easy water access.
  • A convenient on-site dump station and accessible restroom facilities.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the lake shore, there is plenty to explore in the local area. History buffs should not miss the National WASP WWII Museum at Avenger Field, which honors the pioneering women pilots of the war. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the lake is famous for largemouth bass fishing and birdwatching throughout the year. Additionally, the city of Sweetwater offers charming local diners and unique shops that showcase the authentic heritage of this historic Texas community.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for budget-conscious RVers who prefer a rustic, quiet environment over a highly developed commercial resort. It is perfect for serious anglers, golfers looking for a casual round, and travelers seeking a peaceful stopover while traveling along the I-20 corridor. If you appreciate wide-open spaces, simple amenities, and the sounds of nature, Lake Sweetwater provides the perfect backdrop for your next Texas adventure.

Not a bad place to go for a swim. However beware of glass! Also lake seems to be mostly private property and not much swim options for the public. Lake is as pretty full so that’s a huge plus!
