Lake Texoma - COE/Buncombe Creek

Overview

Buncombe Creek Campground is a quiet Army Corps of Engineers (COE) managed park located on the scenic northern shores of Lake Texoma. This destination offers a peaceful retreat for travelers who appreciate the rugged beauty of Oklahoma's water landscapes. Known for its lush greenery and direct access to the water, the park provides a classic camping experience where nature takes center stage. It serves as a reliable gateway to one of the largest and most popular reservoirs in the United States.

Location & Surroundings

Tucked away near Kingston, OK, the park sits along the Buncombe Creek arm of the lake. The surrounding landscape features rolling hills and dense woodlands that provide plenty of shade for many of the campsites. Because it is slightly removed from the busier resort areas of Texoma, visitors enjoy a sense of seclusion and a front-row seat to spectacular sunsets over the Oklahoma horizon. The area is rich with local wildlife, native plants, and a serene atmosphere.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility features over 50 campsites, many of which provide electric and water hookups suitable for various RV sizes. Each site includes a picnic table and a fire ring for evening gatherings under the stars. Practical amenities include:

  • A convenient on-site boat ramp and courtesy dock for easy lake entry.
  • Standard vault toilets and clean drinking water access points throughout the park.
  • An easily accessible dump station for RV maintenance needs.
  • A safe playground area for younger campers to enjoy during their stay.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Lake Texoma is world-renowned for its striped bass fishing, and Buncombe Creek provides a perfect base camp for serious anglers. Beyond the water, the Tishomingo National Wildlife Refuge is a short drive away, offering world-class birdwatching and hiking opportunities. For those needing supplies or a local meal, the town of Kingston provides a charming, small-town atmosphere with essential services, grocery stores, and unique local dining options for a night off from cooking at the campsite.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for anglers and boaters who prioritize quick water access over high-priced luxury resort amenities. It also serves as a wonderful getaway for families seeking a quiet, natural environment where they can unplug and reconnect with the outdoors. If you prefer the reliable, rustic charm of a COE managed campground and a budget-friendly rate for your outdoor excursions, Buncombe Creek is an excellent choice for your next Oklahoma adventure.

First time we stayed here. We liked where it was on the lake. Overall a good stay. Lots of spaces with good shade. We wanted near the water. We stayed in C12.

Gorgeous campsites!! I highly recommend booking sites here. The bathrooms and showers were cleaned and sanitized several times a day. Each site has a nice table and fire pit. I would love to give 5 stars but I did have one issue that kept coming up. Stickers where all over the place. My poor dog kept getting stickers in his paws. Just be aware if your pet starts limping, stop and check. Probably a sticker in his paw. Don't walk around barefoot either. Other than that complaint, everything else was perfect. I can't wait to come back.

Clean nice campground. The only downside side is it is a little close to the casino (about 2 miles) and that could be dangerous 😳
