Overview

Located on the tranquil shores of a vast 1,800-acre reservoir, Lake Tobesofkee Recreation Area-Claystone offers a refreshing escape for RV travelers in Middle Georgia. This public park combines the beauty of a natural lakeside setting with the convenience of being just minutes from the cultural hub of Macon. Whether you are passing through on a long haul or looking for a seasonal getaway, the park provides a spacious environment where the water is the central focus and the atmosphere remains relaxed throughout the year.

Location & Surroundings

Claystone Park is positioned on the northern side of Lake Tobesofkee, characterized by its rolling hills and a lush canopy of Georgia pines. Its strategic location near Interstate 475 makes it an easy stop for travelers, yet the dense forest buffer ensures a quiet experience away from highway noise. The surrounding area transitions seamlessly from the sparkling shoreline to well-maintained green spaces, offering a picturesque backdrop for morning walks or watching the sunset from your campsite.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV facilities at Claystone are designed for comfort and ease of use. Most sites feature paved pads and full hookup connections, including water, sewer, and electricity, which is a significant advantage for a county-managed recreation area. Guests have access to a large white sand beach that rivals coastal destinations, perfect for sunbathing or swimming. Additional amenities include modern bathhouses, multiple boat ramps for easy lake access, and several picnic pavilions equipped with grills for outdoor dining.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the lake is ideal for fishing and boating, the proximity to Macon offers a wealth of exploration. History buffs will appreciate the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, while music fans can visit the legendary Big House Museum. For those who enjoy active recreation, the nearby Arrowhead Park offers miles of mountain biking and hiking trails. The local area also features diverse dining options and shopping centers within a ten-minute drive of the campground entrance.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an excellent choice for families with children who will benefit from the designated swimming beach and playgrounds. It also serves as a perfect home base for boating enthusiasts looking to spend their days on the water with easy vessel launching. We went on a Saturday and really enjoyed it! The beach and bathrooms were clean. Lots of very attentive and friendly lifeguards and it wasn’t super crowded. There are picnic tables and a playground and a few separate beach spots. Only $3/person to enter the parking lot for those 5 years and older.

Wonderful campgrounds. We've stayed at arrow head and claystone, both are great facilities. Full hookups are few but sites are plentiful. Bathhouses and facilities are decent until large crowds fill up the park. That's on the users not the park itself imo. Nearby marina rents a list of watercraft to allow you access to all the scenic beauty of the lake. Will continue to return this is a great Rv park .

My first time visiting and the place is absolutely gorgeous. Not overly packed like I thought it would be for 4th of July weekend. I came in on Friday evening, still plenty of campsites available. Fair pricing. Right on/near the water. Beautiful beach, swimming, kayaking, fishing, boating, disc golfing, hiking, bike riding, etc. I wish people didn't trash the place though, there is a ton of trash behind our tent site we've been trying to clean up all weekend! #NoLitterbugsWelcome

This place is super awesome!!! Spots 43 & 45 are the best. We are here right now (March 7,2024) and like no one is here. The weather is great (74) and view is awesome. So nice!!! Town is just minutes away if ya need something. Clean restrooms and even a washer & dryer. Like the best place ever!
