Lake Tom Bailey

Overview

Lake Tom Bailey offers a serene escape for travelers exploring east-central Mississippi. Managed by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks, this destination centers around a beautiful 182-acre lake. It is less about resort-style glitz and more about a tranquil natural setting where the sounds of the water and local birds take center stage. Whether you are passing through on a long haul or looking for a weekend getaway, the park provides a refreshing break from the highway bustle.

Location & Surroundings

Located in Toomsuba, just a short drive from Meridian, the park sits within a lush, wooded landscape. Its proximity to Interstate 20 makes it an easy detour for RVers traversing the region. The surrounding area is characterized by the rolling hills and pine forests typical of Lauderdale County. This position provides a sense of isolation without being too far from modern conveniences, offering a perfect balance for those who enjoy nature-focused environments that remain accessible.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features dedicated RV sites equipped with water and electrical hookups to ensure a comfortable stay. Visitors have access to clean bathhouses and well-maintained picnic areas perfect for family gatherings. Anglers will appreciate the concrete boat ramp and multiple fishing piers that provide easy access to the lake's healthy stock of bass and catfish. The layout is simple and intuitive, focusing on the basics that traditional campers and RVers value most.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While fishing is the primary draw, there is plenty to explore in the immediate area. A quick trip into Meridian offers a chance to see the historic Dentzel Carousel at Highland Park or visit the Mississippi Industrial Heritage Museum. Nature lovers can also visit Bonita Lakes Park for hiking and additional scenery. Back at the lake, the calm waters are ideal for kayaking or simply relaxing by the shore to watch the sunset over the water.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal fit for dedicated anglers looking to spend quality time on the water or travelers seeking a quiet, budget-friendly stopover. It is best suited for those who prefer rustic simplicity over high-density commercial resorts. Families looking for a safe, open space for children to experience the outdoors will find it welcoming. If your travel style involves a fishing pole and a desire for peace and quiet, Lake Tom Bailey is a great choice.

Cost $5 per person to fish. The area was clean and really pretty. The long pier was cool to fish from. Have little areas with benches and a big open field area where kids can play or have a picnic.

Well, the location is convenient but you can hear the freeway from any site. Also, when I arrived and got a vehicle tag for camping overnight, the Women’s restroom was unlocked and I chose my site accordingly (I’m of a certain age)..Lo and behold, after I set up camp, the restroom was locked. Undeterred, I tried the mens.. it seriously was too gross. Bottom line: OK for RV camping but tent camping discouraged. Apparently a good lake for fishing though.

// 3.2025 update. The prices have gone up a bit, but I guess that's to be expected. Although the park ranger keeps the restroom clean, it still needs renovation. It's still one of my favorite overnight stops on my route. // Great little park. Very well groomed. The restroom could use some funding. It was clean, but needs renovation. The campsite was level and clean. Full rate for an electric site was $22, but the guy working there said $15 since I am senior.
