The park is situated near the town of Whitney, TX, surrounded by the stunning limestone cliffs that give the lake its distinctive character. The landscape features rolling hills and dense groves of oak and cedar trees, offering plenty of shade for many RV sites. Being positioned along the transition between the Cross Timbers and the Grand Prairie regions, visitors can enjoy diverse flora and fauna right from their campsites, with many spots offering unobstructed sunset views over the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is undoubtedly the 235 miles of shoreline. Fishing enthusiasts flock here for trophy-sized striped bass and white crappie, which are plentiful in these clear waters. Just a short drive away, Lake Whitney State Park offers excellent hiking trails and birdwatching opportunities. For a change of pace, the historic downtown area of Whitney features charming local boutiques and cafes. The state park is a drive (20 minutes) from the highway. Park signs are not the best, so a camp map would be good to have. We reserved a spot on the waters edge. Spaces there are not level, even with blocks used. It is quiet, tree filled, and sunsets and morning sun do make it nice. Only water and power at site. The dump station is on the way out of park.

Always has been and always will be one of my favorite parks. Plenty of camping sites, always friendly staff, and the water... just... yeah... the water. My only real complaint is the lack of good hiking. There are only two trails and really only one (Two Bridges) is worth it (to me) as the other is more of a walk through a neighbor's field back home that could be found anywhere. The restroom areas are always clean, the park itself is wonderfully maintained, and the camp site areas vary enough that anyone will be able to find one that will fit their needs.

I've been camping here since I was a kid. We go with the Scouts now and it's just a nice as it was back then. Its just fast enough from DFW to feel like you're getting away but closer enough to get there after work with enough time to get your tent set up before dark.

Screened in cabins were affordable, clean, and convenient for the rainy weather. Would recommend a bring your own, padlock, water hose, surge protector, fan and wood for onsite grill & the fire pit. Restrooms were clean in most areas. Also had stalls and showers. Complimentary life vest were at all water entry areas for safety 👍🏾.

The lake is huge and has plenty of spots to park yourself and enjoy the views. If you are feeling adventurous, there are several areas where you can jump off the bluffs and enjoy the cool waters. There are designated boat ramps to enjoy the lake if you have water sports toys like jet-skis and boats. The are where we were at had restrooms but unfortunately it was locked. The area could definitely also use trash/ recycle bins as there were plenty of cans and bottles lying around. The terrain is rocky so it is best to wear water shoes to prevent any injuries.
