Lamoure County Memorial Park

Overview

Lamoure County Memorial Park is a hidden gem tucked away in the heart of North Dakota’s prairie landscape. Established over a century ago, this historic county park offers a serene escape for RV travelers seeking a connection to both nature and local heritage. Situated along the winding banks of the James River, the park serves as a lush oasis where mature trees provide ample shade and a peaceful backdrop for a relaxing stay. It offers a rare blend of traditional camping and community amenities that have welcomed generations of visitors to the region.

Location & Surroundings

The park is conveniently located just north of LaMoure and near the small community of Grand Rapids. Its position within a scenic river bend creates a unique micro-environment filled with local wildlife and songbirds. While the surrounding area is characterized by vast agricultural fields, the park itself feels like a secluded forest. The gentle sound of the water and the rustle of cottonwood leaves create a restorative environment, providing a sense of privacy and tranquility that is often hard to find in the open plains.

Amenities & Park Features

Visitors will find a variety of RV sites equipped with essential hookups, including 30 and 50-amp electricity and water service. The grounds feature a well-maintained playground for children, expansive picnic shelters for group gatherings, and a modern bathhouse facility. One of the most distinctive features is the historic Memorial Auditorium, which stands as a testament to the park’s long-standing role as a gathering place for the community. A convenient dump station is available on-site, and the spacious layout accommodates various rig sizes comfortably.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy fishing and kayaking directly on the James River, which flows gently past the campground. Just a short walk away, the Memorial Park Country Club offers a challenging nine-hole golf course for those looking to stay active. History lovers should not miss the nearby Grand Rapids Museum, which offers a deep dive into the pioneer spirit and local development of LaMoure County. Birdwatchers will find the river corridor particularly rewarding, especially during migration seasons when various species frequent the water's edge.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for peace-seeking RVers who prefer quiet, natural settings over the hustle of commercial resorts. It is particularly well-suited for families who appreciate wide-open spaces for children to play and for travelers who enjoy a touch of nostalgia and local history. It serves as a perfect home base for exploring the rural beauty of the region or simply enjoying a slow-paced weekend by the water. If you value a rustic riverfront atmosphere and community charm, this county park provides an authentic North Dakota experience.

Very quiet. From all the rain, the mosquitoes were a nightmare, but..... the park manager called back promptly and saved a spot for us. Grass freshly mowed. Very clean facilities. There is a museum on site also, didn't get a chance to see it.

Great historical museum. I enjoyed it a lot. Can't wait to find out about a secret room they found recently in the old county courthouse where the museum is housed.

Beautiful maintained park, but if you want peace and quiet run from this campground. Absolutely the noisiest campground I've been to. Constant ATV traffic, screaming kid's and no supervision or enforcement of the rules. People using this park have lost all common sense and any consideration of anyone else.

wonderful campground! Cabins available for large groups. Grounds are impeccably kept. Beautiful scenery and lots of shade trees. Summer Theater is in area as well. Great family getaway!
