Lathrop State Park is a great place to spend the night, go for a walk, or have a picnic. You can walk for an hour around the lake on the remarkably smooth sidewalk or go for a much shorter bike ride. Places like this are why I include the state parks pass whenever I renew the registration of my vehicle.

It’s so beautiful here! We live here and come to walk. They have amazing, wide, paved walkways. I stop to often to take pictures! So much for that heart rate!

This is my normal stop when 🧳 ng through Waldenburg. The area is great for stretching your legs and letting the dog walk. The restrooms are the cleanest in the area. You can fill your water bottle and grab an ice cream. Very safe as there is a state patrol office at the welcome center. Highly recommend for families and ladies 🧳 ng solo.

Love the view, the staff, grounds and sights. Two lakes: one to fish and one for sporting fun. Spanish Peak is amazing to gaze at in the morning and evening. Town is close to pick up anything you forgot. 35 mins to Trinidad and 45 minutes to Pueblo. No Walmart but there is a Safeway and Dollar General. Walsenburg is a small town with several known fast food places and restaurants. La Veta is just 15 minutes down the road. Mountain View Baptist church in La Veta is a great reformed church. Great Sand dunes aren't far.

Beautiful facility right off the freeway. It's cool you can buy a state park pass, fishing license and national park pass here. Staff is friendly and helpful. This is not a first come first serve park as the website proclaims. Reservations through a third party company are prioritized and you can get kicked out of your camp site if you didn't reserve online and paid at the park. They have no way to override the reservation system. Typical govt operation do as little as possible and shift blame to someone else. Again the reservation and booking system is a joke, but probably the same at all Colorado state parks. We couldn't get more then one night which was a blessing because of the fire that blanketed the camp in smoke.
