Overview
Laurie Provincial Park offers a tranquil retreat on the shores of Grand Lake, serving as a convenient yet secluded base for exploring the Halifax region. This destination provides a balanced mix of forest canopy and waterfront access, making it a favorite for those seeking a natural camping experience without sacrificing proximity to urban conveniences. It is one of Nova Scotia's smaller provincial parks, which contributes significantly to its intimate and peaceful atmosphere for visiting RVers.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the community of Grand Lake, the park is approximately 35 minutes north of downtown Halifax. The surroundings are defined by the expansive waters of Shubenacadie Grand Lake, which is the largest lake in the region. The park is nestled within a mature mixed-wood forest, providing ample shade and privacy for most campsites. Its position allows travelers to enjoy the rugged beauty of the Nova Scotian interior while remaining within a short drive of the Atlantic coast.
Amenities & Park Features
The park accommodates RVers with a selection of sites, including several equipped with electrical hookups to power your rig. While it maintains a rustic feel, essential comforts are provided through clean shower facilities and flush toilets located centrally within the grounds. A convenient disposal station is available for RV waste management. Guests can also enjoy the small cobble beach, a designated swimming area, and a boat launch for exploring the water, along with a short loop trail perfect for morning walks.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water activities are the primary draw here, including kayaking, paddleboarding, and fishing on Grand Lake. Beyond the park boundaries, visitors are a short drive from the historic sites of Halifax, such as the Citadel and the iconic waterfront boardwalk. The Shubenacadie Canal system is also nearby, offering insight into the area's industrial history. For those traveling with families, the nearby Wildlife Park in Shubenacadie provides an excellent day trip to see local fauna in a natural setting.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for nature lovers who prefer a quiet, forest-enclosed environment over high-traffic commercial resorts. It is a fantastic choice for weekend getaway travelers from the city or road trippers looking for a serene stopover near the international airport. Since it offers a blend of water access and wooded sites, it particularly appeals to couples and families who enjoy traditional outdoor activities like swimming, paddling, and evening campfires.

Great place to walk all year, but roads are not maintained in the winter. A great place to picnic or swim(requires shoes) in the summer...or even camp in the campground... The Central Bathrooms are very nice in the campground... Close enough to the city to be easy to get there, but far enough, it doesn't seem like your anywhere but far away in the country... Amenities are within 10-15 mins (bakery, pizza shop, grocery and liquor store, as well as fast food places if you wish).

There are no personnel at the reception. Kind of self service, which is good, but on the opposite side - no one checks the park rules. People on this campground did not respect quiet hours at all. I could not sleep because of laughter and loud talks near the bathroom building. At 1 am someone started using an axe to cut the firewood. This all lasted to 2:30 3 am until it became silent. The park inventory is pretty old. Our picnic table was seeing its last year of service for sure, since it wanted to fall apart when we were sitting on its benches :) ( I am 60kg, not sure if it could handle 100kg people) Overall the nature was beautiful, tall pine trees, lake, cozy atmosphere makes this park worth visiting, but I personally am not sure I will want to repeat this again soon. At least I would look for the place far away from the bathrooms. P.S. if booking, avoid place 20 and others next to it.

We decided to check out Laurie Provincial Park as we had never been there before. Unfortunatley it was closed for the rest of the year so we couldn't drive in. Wr parked before the bridge in a small parking lot and walked it. It would be an ideal spot to camp in the summer. It has beautiful views over the lake with nice treea and even a proper fire pit with each camp ground from what I could see. The real area of opportunity for this campground is signage or lack there of. There is zero signage with roads interwining it is very difficult to navigate as it is not a straight forward road layout. This is my main reason for rating this park 4 stars.

Enjoy walking along the Grand Lake, seeing different camper's set up. There are so many little beaches along the lake. People can enjoy their own privacy in their little beach. A program area with benches which is good for group function. I think that can fit at least 40 people.

A beautiful park on the shore of Grand Lake. Very clean park with lovely sites. Sites are not super private but not too bad. Washrooms could have used more attention from staff. Also did not see a park truck until Sunday morning. Not sure if staff were actually around on the weekend. Overall a great stay. We will be back.
