LBL National Recreation Area/Cravens Bay

Overview

Cravens Bay Campground provides a tranquil retreat nestled within the massive Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. Located along the eastern shores of Kentucky Lake, this facility offers a peaceful environment for travelers who prioritize natural beauty over commercial resort amenities. Managed by the U.S. Forest Service, it serves as a scenic gateway for exploring the diverse ecosystems and vast water resources of Western Kentucky. It is the perfect spot for those who want to experience the quiet side of outdoor life.

Location & Surroundings

Situated near the charming town of Grand Rivers, KY, the park occupies a stunning wooded peninsula that juts into the water. The surrounding environment is characterized by dense hardwood forests and expansive shorelines that change beautifully with the seasons. It is an ideal spot for those who enjoy waking up to the sounds of local wildlife and lake breezes. The proximity to the North-South Trail makes it a prime location for hikers seeking to immerse themselves in the deep woods of the recreation area.

Amenities & Park Features

While the experience is intentionally rustic, the campground offers essential conveniences for modern RVers. Many of the sites are equipped with 30-amp electric hookups, though travelers should note that water and sewer are not available at individual pads. Guests have access to well-maintained vault toilets and drinking water stations throughout the camping loops. A major feature of the park is the dedicated boat ramp, providing direct access for anglers and boaters to explore the productive waters of Kentucky Lake without leaving the grounds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Visitors are perfectly positioned to enjoy the best of the Land Between the Lakes. The Woodlands Nature Station is just a short drive away, offering educational programs and native animal exhibits that are great for all ages. For those who enjoy trekking, the Hematite Trail provides a scenic route around a local marshy lake known for birdwatching. Additionally, the nearby town of Grand Rivers offers local shopping and the famous Patti's 1880's Settlement, providing a nice contrast to the quiet of the campground.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is ideal for nature enthusiasts and anglers who prefer a quiet, low-key camping experience. It caters well to self-contained RVers who can manage without full hookups while enjoying prime lakeside real estate. If you are looking for a place to unplug, launch a kayak, or observe migratory birds in their natural habitat, Cravens Bay offers the perfect balance of seclusion and accessibility. It is a favorite for those who value dark night skies and the sounds of the forest.

Great campground if you want to be secluded from everyone else. Easy access to the lake with great views. All non electric sites is a drawback because you have to hear generators all the time, but I'm sure that's one of the reasons it doesn't get overcrowded like all the other campgrounds anymore. Just don't let your dog off the leash. Grumpy camp host.

This is our first time camping at Craven's Bay. We really love it. They have flush toilets and water spigot. No electric hookups so bring your generator. It is about 6 miles off the main LBL road, so be sure to head to the store before arrival. They do sale ice here. $2 for a 10lb bag and $4 for 20lbs. Great place to bring kids to have a day or weekend playing in the water. Highly recommend
