Ledge Park

Overview

Ledge Park is a scenic destination managed by Dodge County, offering a unique perspective of the Wisconsin landscape. Perched on the Niagara Escarpment, this 82-acre park provides visitors with dramatic rock formations and sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. It serves as a quiet retreat for those looking to experience the geological history and natural beauty of the region while enjoying a classic camping atmosphere that emphasizes a deep connection with the outdoors.

Location & Surroundings

The park is located just north of Horicon, providing a stunning vantage point over the Horicon Marsh, one of the largest freshwater marshes in the United States. The environment is defined by the rugged "Ledge" limestone cliffs and lush wooded areas. Its elevated position creates a peaceful environment where travelers can watch the sunset over the marsh, making it a premier spot for nature photography and birdwatching enthusiasts who want to be close to the wildlife action.

Amenities & Park Features

While the park maintains a rustic and natural feel, it provides essential comforts for RV travelers. The park features several amenities to enhance the visitor experience:

  • Electric hookups are available at many of the upper and lower campsites.
  • Modern restroom and shower facilities are centrally located and well-maintained.
  • A network of hiking trails winds through the limestone crevices and wooded slopes.

The park is split into two distinct sections, offering different perspectives of the cliffs. Families can also utilize the various picnic shelters and playgrounds that are scattered throughout the grounds for daily recreation.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the Horicon Marsh Wildlife Area, famous for its incredible bird migration patterns and walking boardwalks. Visitors can explore the nearby Wild Goose State Trail for biking or head into the city of Horicon for local dining and supplies. The rock formations within the park itself offer hours of exploration, featuring caves and crevices that highlight the unique geology of the escarpment, making every hike a memorable adventure.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts and birdwatchers who prioritize natural scenery over luxury resort amenities. It is a fantastic choice for families looking to introduce children to geology and wildlife in a safe, engaging environment. Because of its shaded, wooded sites and peaceful ambiance, it is best suited for those seeking a quiet escape rather than a high-traffic social hub, appealing to travelers who appreciate the serenity of the Wisconsin woods.

Beautiful park on a fall day in October. Great little trails and walk on and it looks like a nice place to camp at with a tent or RV.

UPDATE. So I finally got to camp at ledge park spot "G" for tent camping Great place quiet and peaceful nice small and easy hiking trails around the camping spots ,water and bathrooms readily available clean and well taken care of would recommend although I do have a small issue with the showers themselves, there is no way to regulate the temperature I was there during the hottest weekend of the year so far and the water was boiling hot so by the time I got out of the shower I was already sweating it was a sauna in there lol hopefully they update them in the near future, but not a bad place for a weekend stay, pricing was very fair IMO similar to State camping spots $20+ and no need for a yearly sticker ,FYI they sell wood by the host camp spot .the spot itself "G" and really all of the camping spots are not very private just another FYI but the shade is awesome during the whole day and it gets windy which I personally like. great first time camping with some minor issues nothing that would stop me from coming back . (First time review)Ledge park ,tbh I wasn't expecting much of this relatively small park and while it is on the smaller side its a great beautiful park the rock formations are awesome and the scenic view is beautiful can't wait to watch the autumn 🍁 trees changing color , the trails are not that long and very easy imo . I saw they have campsites but can't comment on does I just know they are free since it's not a state park location so no entrance fee or camping fee all in all a great day hike and even better y you couple it with horicon state Marsh (just a couple of miles away) highly recommended.

Absolutely loved this place. My kids are 23, 16, 14 and 10. We all enjoyed being there. We loved climbing up and down on the rocks. Next time we'll pack a lunch and make a day off it.
