Little Bow
Overview
Little Bow Provincial Park serves as a premier destination for water enthusiasts and camping families in Southern Alberta. Nestled along the expansive shores of the Travers Reservoir, this park offers a unique blend of prairie landscapes and refreshing aquatic activities. It is widely recognized as a hidden gem for campers looking to escape the wind-swept plains and enjoy a well-maintained facility defined by its lush, sheltered campsites and a mature tree canopy that provides welcome shade during the hot summer months.
Location & Surroundings
Located just a short drive east of the town of Champion, AB, the park is situated within the heart of Vulcan County. The surrounding geography is characterized by rolling hills and vast agricultural lands, which provide a stark and beautiful contrast to the deep blue waters of the reservoir. The park is uniquely positioned in a valley that creates a warm microclimate, often offering higher temperatures and calmer conditions than the open prairies nearby, making it a perfect haven for sun-seekers.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is designed to accommodate various camping styles, featuring numerous sites equipped with 30-amp power hookups for RV travelers. The park provides essential comforts including clean washrooms, flush toilets, and coin-operated showers. For recreation, the park boasts a large sandy beach, a roped-off swimming area, and a fully functional boat launch. A seasonal concession stand and a well-equipped playground ensure that both parents and children have everything they need for a comfortable and extended stay.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Water sports are the primary draw at Little Bow, with the reservoir being a top-tier destination for sailing and windsurfing thanks to the area's consistent breezes. Fishing is another major highlight, with the waters being home to healthy populations of northern pike and walleye. For a change of pace, visitors can head to the town of Vulcan to explore Star Trek-themed landmarks, or enjoy birdwatching along the shoreline, where various migratory species are frequently spotted throughout the season.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for active families and boaters who want a vacation centered around the water. Its combination of reliable amenities and a social, community-focused atmosphere makes it perfect for RVers who enjoy a lively environment. Amazing family campground. Flushing toilets and showers, concession stand, firewood and Ice available for purchase. Lots of drinking water taps around. Beach is very busy on a weekend but didn’t bother us much as we kayaked. Some campsites are not very private but if you pick the right site and plan ahead it’s great. Lots of mature trees. Will definitely be coming back. We were on site A10 and was perfect, only one neighbouring site on left. Lots of dogs and lots of kids! Playground is fun for the kids too.

The place gives you the opportunity to disconnect (no data signal) and the hills covers the camping site and the lake. The lake has crawfish you can catch and cook, kids enjoyed it. Tables are available, you can go boating, there's washroom with water.

The Park itself is kept very clean, the washrooms are clean as are the outhouses. Lots to do for the entire family. There's a beach with swimming although sometimes the water is a little low but still gives the little ones a place to play. The lake is great for all those boating enthusiasts as well as the fisherman. Most sites are well treed and spacious. Of course there's a ice cream store. The only problem I have is their dump station, Both flushes don't work, so you basically have just let it drain. There's no garbage so people through their garbage on the ground and on top of that you are required to pay 6.00 dumping fee 🙄

An oasis amid a pretty barren part of Alberta, little bow offers plenty of amenities at a mostly reasonable price point. Middle parts of the loops do not afford much privacy and this campground can be a real zoo on the weekend so choose your site carefully. The staff ensure the bathrooms and showers are camping clean which is better then most private places I've been to. My only complaint is that the firewood price is bonkers for what you get. This is a great family campground with quiet time at 11pm it filters the rowdy folks to Travers Resivoir where they don't enforce any rules. You can expect to have a great time here if you are looking for a place to listen to the birds, fish or just go for a nice walk. No cellular connectivity unless you drive to the boat launch or the top of the hill which can be a great way to disconnect. The fishing here is excellent as well.

Nice little campground set in a valley between the hills. Grounds were clean and well maintained. The beach and lake were great. There is a small shop at the beach selling a few snacks, food and beach toys but it's only open for a few hours on weekends. Toilets were typical for a campground, but not bad at all. I'd visit here again.
