It is a place where the natural beauty of North Dakota is on full display through its rolling hills and quiet atmosphere.

Location & Surroundings

Located just outside Kathryn, North Dakota, the park is a primary highlight along the **Sheyenne River Valley National Scenic Byway**. The surroundings are defined by dramatic elevation changes that are uncommon in the rest of the state. Visitors will find themselves immersed in a valley rich with oak and ash trees, which create a secluded and private environment. The proximity to the winding **Sheyenne River** ensures that the air stays cool and the views remain vibrant throughout the peak camping season.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides a variety of camping options, including several sites equipped with **electrical hookups** for RVers. While the setting is intentionally rustic, guests have access to essential facilities such as potable water and a convenient **on-site dump station**. The grounds are well-maintained and feature multiple picnic shelters and a playground for younger travelers. A signature feature of the park is the bridge system that connects different sections of the campground, allowing for easy exploration of the creek and surrounding hillsides.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can explore the **scenic hiking trails** that wind through the park’s hills, offering excellent opportunities for birdwatching and photography. The nearby Sheyenne River is a popular spot for those interested in fishing or light paddling. The area is also perfect for stargazing, as the lack of light pollution provides clear night skies.

Who This Park Is Best For

Beautiful campground with nature trails and fun things to do. Will definitely be camping out next year in the secluded primitive spots!! Just to warn though you'll be roughing it a bit here. There is no bath house or facilities with running water. Only water available is threw a couple designated spigots located on the grounds. Also cell reception is quite rough but I took it as a plus!

A relaxing spot on the prairie. More primitive on the upper area. I was jealous of the campers on our roadtrip North on the river road to Valley City.

Nice campground. A bit noisy from the highway. Couldn't find any running water though. Not bad for a day trip and a picnic.

Great campground and short hiking along the stream. Lots to see if you take time to look. Been coming here for over 20 years.
