Lizard Creek Campground

Overview

Lizard Creek Campground offers a quiet, primitive escape on the northern shore of Jackson Lake. It is one of the more secluded spots within Grand Teton National Park, providing a true wilderness experience for travelers who prefer nature over commercial amenities. The campground is nestled under a canopy of spruce and fir trees, offering shade and a sense of isolation from the busier tourist hubs located further south in the park.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in Moran, WY, the campground sits at an elevation of approximately 6,775 feet. Its primary draw is the immediate access to the crystal-clear waters of Jackson Lake. From the rocky shoreline, campers can enjoy stunning views of the northern Teton Range, which rises dramatically across the water. The surrounding forest is home to diverse wildlife, including moose, elk, and grizzly bears, requiring visitors to stay vigilant.

Amenities & Park Features

As a rustic destination, the park provides primitive camping sites without electricity, sewer, or water hookups. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, a fire ring, and a bear-resistant food locker to ensure safety in grizzly country. On-site facilities are basic, featuring vault toilets and seasonal potable water stations. While there are no showers or laundry facilities at this specific location, these services are available a short drive away at Colter Bay Village.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of recreation nearby. Jackson Lake is perfect for kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, with easy access for launching non-motorized boats. The campground serves as a strategic gateway for those visiting both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park, as the South Entrance of Yellowstone is located just a few miles to the north. Hiking trails through the pine forests offer various levels of difficulty for all explorers.

Who This Park Is Best For

This campground is ideal for small RV owners and van lifers who prioritize scenery and solitude over modern conveniences. Because the maximum vehicle length is strictly restricted to 30 feet, it is not suitable for big rigs. It is the perfect choice for self-sufficient travelers looking to disconnect and enjoy the raw, natural beauty of the Wyoming wilderness in a serene, lakeside environment.

Great location! I was situated in the front with a walk in spot and it was nice and clean, had I only booked in advance though! There are so many great spots and amazing views further back! Examples I saw: 16-18, 20, 34, 35, 39-41, 46, 47, 53. I can’t say they are perfect just from driving by but those are ones I will pick next time. It appeared every site had a bear proof box. Bathroom was clean.

Not great scenery as it's in the forest. Host was extremely helpful and kind. It's a great spot if you're hitting up Yellowstone the next day as it's about 15 minutes from the south entrance. You can't really see the actual Grand Tetons from here

My family and I stayed at lizard creek campground for 5 nights and it was amazing! clean bathrooms, wish there were showers but definitely not the end of the world. Charlie and Joan were absolutely amazing. The sweetest camp host, very informative and nice. Charlie and Joan gave us the best advice on where to go see wildlife, the best views and best spots to see. We took their advice on where to go the whole time we were there and we were never not amazed at how great they said the views were. They gave us amazing hike reccomendations! This is definitely a low crowded campground with the nicest people! 10/10 recommend!! Go see Charlie and Joan for your grand Teton / Yellowstone trip!!

The Lizard Creek campground was great! The campground is managed by the nearby Signal Mountain Lodge. The campground does NOT offer shower or laundry facilities but these facilities can be found ~15 mins away. It was very convenient to stay in the park and be close to the hiking areas. Our site was directly on the water and was a no-generator zone. (There is also a car camping zone that allows generators). The bathroom facilities had muddy floors from the rain but were extremely clean other than that and had running water and soap. The gentleman that checked us in was nice and respectful. There are bear boxes provided or you can keep your food in the car. The sites were reasonably sized but very close together, there is a lot of trees for privacy though! There are also a lot of bear-proof dumpsters. Did not encounter any wildlife other than ground squirrels and ducks on the lake. I recommend staying here. The only downside is that the site was expensive. It was 50$ after taxes and fees, where a comparable site in Yellowstone was 20$. I guess that is what you pay for running water. This site did have 2-3 bars of cellular service through Verizon continuously throughout our time there.

The campsites here felt more private than other sites I've been at in National parks! Not to mention the beautiful views of the lake. What I loved most was the check-in woman/campground manager (maybe not her title, but the women who lives at the front of the grounds) who would drive around in her golf cart to check in on everyone. She's the sweetest! She would check in on things a few times a day, and sometimes would take her pup for a ride. It made me feel safer. Thanks for a great and beautiful stay! P.S. the bathrooms were clean as well.
