Long Pine SRA

Overview

Long Pine State Recreation Area provides a serene getaway nestled within the rugged beauty of north-central Nebraska. This park serves as a hidden gem for travelers seeking a lush, forested environment along the banks of a cold-water stream. With its signature Ponderosa pines and cool waters, the park offers a refreshing change of pace from the typical plains landscape, making it a peaceful stop for any RVer looking to immerse themselves in nature.

Location & Surroundings

Located just west of the village of Long Pine, the park sits in a deep, narrow canyon carved by the Long Pine Creek. The unique geography creates a shaded sanctuary that remains cooler than the surrounding areas during the summer months. Its position in the Sandhills region allows visitors to experience a dramatic transition in terrain, where sandy hills give way to steep, pine-clad slopes and a vibrant, spring-fed riparian zone.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features 28 camping pads equipped with electric hookups to accommodate modern RVs, while additional primitive sites are available for a more traditional experience. Basic facilities include vault toilets, drinking water, and a dump station located conveniently nearby for guest use. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained picnic areas and fire rings at each site, ensuring a comfortable and functional environment for enjoying the sights and sounds of the Nebraska wilderness.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for many is the exceptional trout fishing available in the creek, which is considered one of the finest cold-water streams in the state. For those looking to relax on the water, tubing down the creek is a popular local tradition. Hikers can explore the one-mile nature trail that winds through the canyon, or head to the nearby Cowboy Trail for miles of hiking and biking opportunities across the scenic Niobrara River valley region.

Who This Park Is Best For

This recreation area is best suited for adventurous RVers who prefer scenic vistas and outdoor activities over commercial resort amenities. It is a fantastic destination for families wanting to introduce their children to fishing and tubing in a safe, natural setting. If you are looking for a rustic retreat with enough modern convenience to keep your rig powered, Long Pine SRA is an excellent choice for your next Nebraska road trip.

Awesome, don't go there though, I think it's better with less people haha! Just a quiet, small town park, friendly people and cold water to tube or relax on. Great trout fishing!

Nice place, could be up dated a little more. Lots of Vaulted bathrooms, no showers that I could see. Right now no one can have fire pits
