Long Point

Overview

Long Point Provincial Park, established in 1921, is one of Ontario’s oldest and most cherished destinations for RV travelers. Nestled on the northern shore of Lake Erie near Port Rowan, this park is recognized as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. It offers a striking natural landscape dominated by a massive sandspit that reaches out into the Great Lake. Travelers visit for the pristine environment and the opportunity to experience one of the most biologically diverse areas in Canada, where the sand meets the sky in a dramatic display of nature.

Location & Surroundings

Located just south of the charming village of Port Rowan, the park serves as a gateway to a 40-kilometer sandspit. The surrounding landscape features a mix of lush woodlands, rolling sand dunes, and extensive freshwater marshes. This unique geography creates a sheltered environment where the lake's breezes keep the summer air fresh and cooling. The park provides a profound sense of isolation and peace, with the vast expanse of Lake Erie stretching endlessly toward the horizon, offering some of the best waterfront views in the province.

Amenities & Park Features

The park provides several campgrounds tailored for RVers, including the Firefly and Monarch loops, which offer reliable electrical hookups. While hookups are limited to electricity, the park provides convenient water filling stations and a central trailer dumping station for waste management. Modern comfort stations with showers and laundry facilities are strategically located for ease of use throughout the park. The campsites are often nestled among mature trees, providing a private and natural setting for your rig while remaining just a short walk from the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the beach, the area is a world-renowned bird migration hotspot, making the nearby Long Point Bird Observatory a must-visit for nature enthusiasts. Outdoor adventurers can enjoy kayaking through the calm, sheltered marshes or fishing for bass and perch in the inner bay. A short drive into Port Rowan offers local boutiques, fresh ice cream, and a glimpse into a traditional lakeside community. Additionally, the region is home to several award-winning wineries that define the growing Norfolk County viticulture scene.

Who This Park Is Best For

Long Point is ideal for travelers who prioritize natural beauty and outdoor recreation over high-end resort amenities. It is a haven for birdwatchers and beachgoers who want to wake up to the sound of waves rather than highway traffic. Families will appreciate the shallow, sandy waters of Lake Erie which are perfect for swimming, while couples will enjoy the quiet, scenic sunsets. It is best suited for those looking for a rustic and serene escape into one of Ontario’s most delicate and beautiful ecosystems.

Amazing place to take your family! Fun and relaxing for all ages. The beach was great! The water was just right! Nice and shallow. It would be nice if they kept the sand area cleaner as there was a lot of wood, cigarette butts & debris scattered. Overall, great day! Not busy. Parking was available at a paid price.

We have been to Long Point Provincial Park many times for day use. There is a nice sized beach with room to spread out. The beach is shallow and good for kids. Lake Erie is generally warmer than the other Great Lakes so that’s a plus to the kids also. Have never hiked or camped so can’t comment on those facilities however there are washrooms by the parking lots when going to the beach.

Beautiful park with many natural areas. The campsites are a sandy base if you aren't in the pull through section, but there was lots of space between sites and being within walking distance of the beach is great. Showers were clean and there was a foot washing tap if you're just looking to clean your feet. The kids loved the playground, there are a few play structures and swings.

Great sandy beach with glowing sands and lots of waves to give you a feel of ocean. I was there in the long weekend and still not crowded at all. I don’t recommend camping here as there are not so many trees like other parks and campsites are small, cramp and exposed. But day use of the beach is awesome. There is no shower, changing room or bathroom on the beach.

Just love this park. We’ve been coming every year for the last ten years. The beach is beautiful and the camp sites are large. The staff is super friendly and do rounds pretty often which is great. The cleanliness could be much better for the sites, the showers, bathrooms and the beach itself. Most mornings we have to wash up with sinks full of sand and bugs and seems they are cleaned only once a day. Same with the showers and seem to have one out of service most of the time. Besides the cleanliness, really love this beautiful park.
