Long Point

Overview

Long Point State Park in Three Mile Bay offers a tranquil retreat on a peninsula jutting into Lake Ontario. This destination is part of the Thousand Islands region, known for its expansive water views and peaceful atmosphere. Unlike high-traffic commercial resorts, this park focuses heavily on the natural beauty of the shoreline and the surrounding forest. RVers often visit to enjoy the spectacular sunsets over the water and the cooling lake breezes that define the camping experience in Northern New York.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated on a remote point in Chaumont Bay, providing a sense of isolation while remaining accessible via local routes. Surrounded by the fresh waters of Lake Ontario, the geography creates a unique environment for those who love the outdoors. The landscape features open grassy areas and scenic shorelines that are perfect for quiet walks or morning birdwatching. Visitors can appreciate the local flora and the quiet, rural charm of Jefferson County while remaining close to the water.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground provides essential facilities designed for a comfortable stay. While many sites are primitive, there are specific spots available for RVers who require power and extra space. The park features a variety of amenities to support your stay:

  • Reliable electric hookups for modern RV campers.
  • A sturdy concrete boat launch for easy Lake Ontario access.
  • Clean restroom facilities with showers and a central dumping station.

Each site includes a sturdy picnic table and a fire ring for classic camping meals under the stars.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Anglers will find some of the best world-class fishing for bass and pike in the state right off the point. Boating is the main activity here, but the surrounding region offers plenty to explore. A short drive takes you to the historic village of Sackets Harbor, where you can explore local military history and waterfront dining. Additionally, the famous attractions of the Thousand Islands, including boat tours and local museums, are within a reasonable distance for a memorable day trip.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for travelers who prefer a quiet, rustic environment over the structured activities of a luxury resort. It is a perfect fit for boating enthusiasts and anglers who want direct and easy access to the vast waters of Lake Ontario. If you enjoy a traditional camping style and appreciate wide-open spaces and stunning waterfront vistas, you will find this park highly rewarding. It is best suited for those looking to unplug and enjoy a slower pace of life.

Big sites with nice view of the water and good water access. Quiet park and family friendly. Bathhouses are pretty good and are clean. Good fishing with our yaks. Bass, perch and sunfish. Easy to dsytrip into Clayton. Overall, we really enjoy this park. Only issue we ever have here are Bees, but there seem to be less this Fall than when we were here midsummer a few years ago (they were incessant then).

Super well maintained park. Many sites on the bay. Sunsets are incredibly beautiful. Fish, boat, kayak, canoe or just take your chair and sit in the water. Only 1 dump though, so take notice when u leave...may take a little time. Just a great park!

Beautiful scenery all around and super quiet park! Downfalls is the goose poop is EVERYWHERE and the electrical needs to be upgraded for sure. Definitely bring a surge protector and keep an eye on your voltage here! We had a couple beautiful weather days here at the beginning of June and a bad storm the last day & night that brought damaging winds. Great park to get away if you don't need many amenities.

Very nice, best state park I've been to so far. I feel bad leaving a 5 star review because I want the whole park to myself and no one else to visit. Staff is friendly and courteous, spaces are large and quiet, awesome waterfront.
