Lordsburg KOA Journey

Overview

Lordsburg KOA Journey serves as a reliable desert oasis for travelers navigating the long stretches of Interstate 10. Positioned between Tucson and El Paso, this park specializes in providing a convenient stopover for long-haul RVers. It offers a straightforward, well-maintained environment where visitors can rest and recharge before continuing their journey across the Southwest. The park captures the essence of the high desert with wide-open skies and a quiet, relaxed atmosphere.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the southwestern corner of New Mexico, the park is easily accessible from the highway, making it an ideal choice for those wanting to avoid complex navigation. The surrounding landscape features rugged desert terrain and distant mountain views that turn vibrant shades of purple and orange at sunset. Its location in Lordsburg provides a gateway to exploring the Continental Divide Trail, offering a sense of isolation and peace that is characteristic of the rural New Mexico experience.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed with efficiency in mind, featuring long pull-thru sites that accommodate big rigs without the need to unhook. Each site provides full hookups, including 50-amp service and reliable Wi-Fi for staying connected. Guests can enjoy the seasonal swimming pool during warmer months or grab a quick bite like Hunt Brothers Pizza right on-site. The facility also includes a dedicated KampK9 dog park, ensuring that four-legged travel companions have a safe space to stretch their legs after a day on the road.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While many use the park as a base for rest, the local area offers unique historical excursions. A short drive leads to the Shakespeare Ghost Town, a preserved 19th-century mining town that offers guided tours of the Old West. Nature enthusiasts can visit the Steins Railroad Ghost Town or explore the Chiricahua National Monument a bit further west. The dark desert skies also provide an exceptional opportunity for stargazing, as light pollution is minimal in this remote section of the state.

Who This Park Is Best For

This KOA is perfectly suited for cross-country travelers and snowbirds looking for a safe, predictable place to spend a night or two. It is an excellent choice for big-rig owners who value easy entry and exit points and level gravel sites. Those who appreciate a no-frills, high-utility experience will find it meets all their logistical needs. It is best for RVers who prioritize accessibility and comfort over resort-style entertainment, making it a staple for those trekking across the southern United States.

Nice campground, friendly staff. Sites are level and easy to get in and out of.

$65 for a dirt lot with full hookups in a sketchy run down area of town is outrageous. Abandoned houses everywhere. The sad excuse for a playground was laughable and also run down. Fire ants everywhere. Wifi wouldn't work at all. Trying to charge for EVERY PERSON including kids is ridiculous. Keep driving and find somewhere better.

Great for one night only. As some have mentioned, the town looks totally depressed, the empty houses on the drive in to KOA are almost spooky. At the end of April the pool was dry and closed. Yes plenty of level spots but the Trees mentioned; were all saplings.

KOAs are the High end of RV parks, this one was also. Well maintained, clean and level with full hook ups, has a pool, cabins, playground, laundry and more.

The bathrooms were very clean. The laundry was nice. However we were unable to get propane and the free breakfast was unavailable due to someone being sick. Our credit card was double charged and the desk person gave me a VERY hard time about reversing the charges.
