Lundy Lake Campground
Overview
Overview
Situated in the eastern Sierra Nevada, Lundy Canyon frames Lundy Lake Campground in Bridgeport, California as a dramatic alpine escape. High peaks, steep canyon walls, and swift-moving mountain creeks define this dramatic high-elevation landscape. Travelers ascending the grade from U.S. Route 395 find a rugged outdoor basecamp that puts visitors immediately adjacent to some of California's most striking mountain terrain.
Location & Surroundings
Approaching via U.S. Route 395, drivers navigate the high desert transition into glacier-carved canyons characteristic of Mono County. The climate brings chilly mountain nights even during summer months, alongside intense daytime sun reflecting off granite faces. Rapid weather changes are standard at this elevation, and the surrounding terrain features dense aspen groves that draw heavy crowds during the fall foliage season.
Amenities & Park Features
Because official property upgrades and exact infrastructure details fluctuate, visitors should contact operators directly to confirm hookup types, generator hours, and vehicle length limitations. Campers should anticipate typical mountain-canyon campground offerings such as vault toilets, drinking water spigots, and defined vehicle spurs. Due to narrow canyon roads and steep grades, large motorhomes and long fifth-wheel trailers require careful navigation before attempting entry.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor recreation centers heavily around Mono Lake to the south and the historic mining ghost town of Bodie State Historic Park to the northeast. Anglers frequently target the local waters for trout, while hikers utilize the steep trail climbing past beaver ponds and waterfalls toward the Hoover Wilderness. Yosemite National Park's eastern entrance via Tioga Pass sits a short drive south, offering world-class alpine vistas when seasonal road conditions permit access.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination suits self-contained RVers, trout anglers, and wilderness hikers who prioritize raw scenery over luxury resort conveniences. Fall foliage chasers and photographers finding themselves along the Eastern Sierra corridor will appreciate the direct canyon access. Those seeking a quiet basecamp for high-altitude exploration and alpine hiking find this Bridgeport location an ideal jumping-off point.

If you want a rustic camp experience with real Eastern Sierra fishing, come to Lundy Lake. Just be sure to call early. The cabins fill up fast.

It was closed . They open late in the year and close early. It's very primitive camping if that's what you like. A store and mostly low voltage when the generator is running. The lake is beautiful.

Wonderful place, beautiful vistas and great people. Lots of bear activity though, so don’t leave your fish guts around your site. Those bears will come around most nights, so be smart!
