Lyman Run
Overview
Lyman Run State Park offers a serene escape within the rugged landscape of Potter County. Known for its crystal-clear lake and dense woodland, this destination provides a quiet retreat for those looking to disconnect. The park is part of the Pennsylvania Wilds, a region celebrated for its pristine natural beauty and lack of light pollution. Visitors often come here to enjoy the stillness of the northern mountains while taking advantage of modern camping conveniences. It serves as an ideal base for exploring the surrounding Susquehannock State Forest.
Location & Surroundings
Located just outside Galeton, the park is nestled in a deep valley surrounded by maples and hardwoods. The centerpiece is the 45-acre Lyman Run Lake, which is fed by the sparkling waters of Lyman Run. The drive into the park is scenic, winding through the vast forests of North Central Pennsylvania. Because of its remote location, the area remains remarkably quiet, offering a true back-to-nature experience. The proximity to high-elevation plateaus means the air is crisp, and the surrounding terrain is a haven for diverse wildlife and birdwatching.
Amenities & Park Features
The park features two main camping areas: the Lower and Upper Campgrounds. RVers will find sites equipped with electric hookups, ranging from 30 to 50 amps, accommodating various rig sizes. The sites are mostly shaded and offer a level of privacy often missing in commercial parks. Facilities include modern restrooms with showers and a sanitary dump station for convenience. While the atmosphere is rustic, the inclusion of a sand beach with a snack bar and boat rentals ensures that families have plenty of comfort options during their stay.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find no shortage of activities, from trout fishing in the lake to hiking the Lyman Run Trail. For those seeking a unique nighttime experience, the world-renowned Cherry Springs State Park is a short drive away, offering some of the darkest skies on the East Coast for stargazing. History buffs should visit the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum to learn about the region's industrial past. Additionally, the park provides access to the extensive ATV trail system in the Susquehannock State Forest, making it a popular hub for off-road adventurers.
Who This Park Is Best For
Lyman Run is perfectly suited for travelers who prefer a peaceful, rustic environment over a busy resort atmosphere. It is an excellent choice for anglers, hikers, and families who enjoy traditional outdoor recreation like swimming and campfires. If you are an RVer who values scenic views and direct trail access, this park will meet your needs. It is especially appealing to those looking to escape the hustle of city life and experience the quiet solitude that only the Pennsylvania mountains can provide.

We absolutely enjoyed our stay at Lyman Run State Park. We stayed in the Lower Loop campground, site 33 and it fantastic. The site was well maintained and accommodated our 5th wheel toy hauler very well, site 33 says its a back in ,we arrived we saw it was a pull through. The bath house was in a very convenient location and they were cleaned and well maintained. We also enjoyed the convenient location of the ATV trailhead. Lyman Run lake was absolutely beautiful. Please note that cellphone service and internet is non existent in the camping area of the state park, on a positive note it was a great experience to be unplugged for once. I will definitely be returning.

This is a really cool state park. There is a lot to do here. Fishing, hunting, hiking, tenting/camping, they have beach and swim area, I believe they have atv trails as well for those folks, there is a dirt road that goes above the park were a vista is located at that gas a beautiful overlook of the lake. The lake is also open to canoeing and kayaking. Lyman Run State Park is a beautiful place.

I have been coming to this park since I was a child, it's always been well maintained, safe, and fun. It's open to the public and free entry. You can rent boats or stop at the small concession stand that is nearby and has ice cream, drinks, and burgers and dogs. You can also rent boats by the hour or for the day, if you are nearby you can also walk out to the Lyman run dam and catch some of the scenery.

Lyman lake is one of my favorite state parks and lakes. The lake is small but has a beach, bathrooms, boat launch, and kids park. Great fishing for trout with boat or on shore. The stream is small but also great trout fishing. Only electric motors allowed and not to far from Cherry Springs Observation area.
