MacMillen RV Park

Overview

MacMillen RV Park offers a quiet and unpretentious retreat for travelers exploring the high desert landscapes of West Texas. As a family-owned and operated establishment, the park focuses on providing a peaceful environment without the distractions of larger commercial resorts. It serves as a reliable base camp for those who appreciate a slower pace of life and unobstructed views of the rugged horizon that defines this high-altitude region. Travelers often find that the personal touch of the management makes their stay feel more like home than a standard stopover.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the heart of Fort Davis, the park sits at an elevation of approximately 5,000 feet, ensuring cooler summer temperatures than the surrounding lowlands. The scenic mountain vistas are a highlight, with the Davis Mountains providing a dramatic backdrop for every sunset. Its central location allows visitors to enjoy the small-town charm of Fort Davis while remaining immersed in the vast, open spaces of the Trans-Pecos region. You are just minutes away from local boutiques and historical landmarks that capture the spirit of the Old West.

Amenities & Park Features

The park is designed for self-contained travelers who value functional simplicity over luxury. Each site features full hookups to ensure a comfortable stay. Key features of the property include:

  • 30 and 50-amp electrical service at every site
  • Reliable high-speed Wi-Fi access for all guests
  • Clean and convenient on-site laundry facilities
  • Gravel sites designed to accommodate various rig lengths

These amenities provide the essential foundations for a successful road trip through the rugged West Texas terrain.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

A short drive leads to the Fort Davis National Historic Site, one of the best-preserved frontier military posts in the American Southwest. For those interested in the cosmos, the world-renowned McDonald Observatory is nearby, offering spectacular Star Parties under some of the darkest skies in the country. Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of hiking, biking, and birdwatching opportunities at Davis Mountains State Park, which is located just a few miles down the road from the RV park entrance.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for budget-conscious RVers and independent travelers looking for a quiet home base. It appeals to travelers who prefer a no-frills experience where the natural environment and local culture take center stage. If you enjoy stargazing, historical exploration, and a community-oriented vibe rather than a crowded resort setting, this park provides the perfect balance of comfort and utility. It is especially well-suited for those traveling in standard-sized motorhomes or towables who want easy access to the region's main attractions.

Friendly new owners, great sunsets and watch the Milky Way appear in the dark skies. The bath / shower house is brand new and very nice. The park is set back from the highway a bit so traffic noise is not a problem. Fort Davis and the parks, Marfa is 22 miles, Alpine is 24, right nearby. If you're exploring Texas and the Big Bend, I really recommend: - Swimming at San Solomon springs, Balmoreah - Walking downtown Fort Davis, seeing the old US Army fort - Hike at the state park, if you're up for it - A slow scenic drive up to McDonald Observatory then back around the "scenic loop" - one of the prettiest drives in America. - Back to Camp Davis for a nice soaking bath in their tub, then watching the stars come out.

Great location and the manager was friendly. Shower rooms were nice but were only cleaned once in a 10 day stay. Laundry room - machines were broken and the manager said they have been for a year. Sites were good, hookups & water worked. Just seems like they need a bunch of maintenance to get it back in good shape. Amazing views of stars at night!!!
