Madison (City of Madison Park)
Overview
The City of Madison Campground, often referred to as the City of Madison Park, offers RV travelers a unique opportunity to stay directly on the banks of the mighty Ohio River. This municipal facility provides a welcoming and scenic atmosphere for those looking to explore one of Indiana's most preserved historic towns. The park effectively combines the tranquility of riverfront views with the convenience of an urban location, making it a staple for travelers passing through the scenic corridors of Southern Indiana.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in the heart of the Ohio River Valley, the park is framed by dramatic limestone bluffs and the wide, flowing river. The surroundings are defined by the iconic Milton-Madison Bridge and a beautifully maintained paved walking trail that skirts the shoreline. It serves as a literal gateway to the Madison Historic District, where the architecture reflects the mid-19th-century boom of this important riverport city, providing a backdrop that feels like stepping back in time.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is well-equipped for modern travelers, offering full hookup sites that include water, sewer, and 30/50-amp electricity. Visitors have access to essential facilities such as clean restrooms, hot showers, and a convenient dump station for those passing through. Most sites feature level gravel pads and include a picnic table and fire ring, allowing for a traditional camping experience while watching the barges and riverboats slowly drift by the campsite.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
History buffs will appreciate being minutes away from the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site and numerous antique boutiques that line the downtown streets. Nature lovers can drive a very short distance to Clifty Falls State Park, known for its rugged canyons and four dramatic waterfalls. Seasonal events like the Madison Regatta bring a vibrant energy to the riverfront, while local vineyards and craft breweries offer a relaxing way to spend an afternoon in the historic district.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for history enthusiasts and river lovers who prioritize location and accessibility over resort-style luxuries. It is a perfect fit for travelers who enjoy a walkable city experience, as the downtown area is easily reached via the riverfront walkway. If you prefer the gentle sounds of river traffic and being steps away from architectural exploration, this park is a premier choice for your Indiana itinerary.

Very nice equipment and there's a nice view of the river. The kids had a blast hunting down the symbols.

The park is showing signs of wear and tear. Hope the Parks Department has a plan to address it after the summer season.

This park would be 5 stars but it has an entrance that is so unsafe. It is not only close to the river but leads directly into the road and the exit/entrance can not be seen from most seating/play areas. So you can never let your guard down for fear your child could walk right out.

Wow! What a great park!! The only thing even remotely w complain about would be parking but hey...it's downtown on the riverfront! Too many other wonderful things about this park 2 let parking a half a block or so away discourage anyone from utilizing this amazing kids park along the beautiful riverfront! Well maintained and so much 4 the kids! Great job City of Madison!!
