Mama Gertie's Hideaway Campground

This location is close to area activities and the interstate and still far enough away from hwy and city noise. The bathrooms and laundry are clean. There are some awesome RV sites with beautiful views but also a lot of sites that are small and could be difficult to access depending on your rig and skills. Many sites will require disconnecting and parking sideways in front of your camper if towing. The online third party reservation company they use does not explain this or that this campground is on the side of a steep hill. We checked in on a Sunday and their offices were closed. The maintenance worker checked us in. He was very friendly and did his best to help everyone but because of this campgrounds strict check-in window four campers arrived around the same time which made this difficult for everyone. For us, the price / value ratio didn’t work.

Great campsites, spectacular views (if you get one of the higher campsites) and spacious and spotless bathrooms! The only problem was the door lock for the bathrooms -try to remember AND get the code in in the middle of the night-good luck. (Not sure why the bathrooms need a door lock anyways) Communication was good. We had the change the dates which was no problem at all. Unfortunately we could not charge our EV. Close to Asheville but super quiet.

5 stars for the 2 guys who helped us get checked in. Attitude and willingness to help outstanding. 4 stars because of having to unload our utility trailer and leave at main parking area. Very steep layout. 2nd level had great sites. Firewood $5 & those guys bring it to your site. Very clean and great bath facilities. Very quiet and simply a nice mountain campground.

We just had a great six night stay at Mama Gertie's. We opted for a Tier Three mountain view spot and that it was... wonderful views! We arrived on Labor Day weekend so Tier Three was nearly full but we still had enough elbow room. Bathrooms were spotless and so was the laundry room, both on Tier Three so it was nice not having to walk far for either. My only mild complaint was the firewood we bought from Mam Gertie's was pretty green and didn't burn well, even using the fire starter they provided. We would definitely stay there again but next time I'm bringing some kindling and a few logs of my own!

I loved Mama Gertie’s Campground. Close to Downtown Asheville. Super quiet, tucked into a hill and woods! The staff were super helpful and kind. When they warn you about the bears… believe them. We actually got to see one crossing the road near our campsite. It didn’t look our way… so no harm done, but they are out there!

This is the nicest campground I've stayed in ever. The showers here are cleaner than most hotels. I rate this place a 10 out of 10.

Wonderful campground, quiet and beautiful. Staff very friendly and helpful. Facilities clean and well maintained. The view from tier 3 was amazing- highly recommend tier 3 with a private deck.

Their communication is terrible. We needed to change our dates for the reservation or get the gift certificate so we can reserve a different time frame. We followed the rules and emailed them because they don't except calls or texts. Good luck trying to speak to anyone about anything. They say that it can take up to 72 hrs for a reply. We emailed twice and gave at least 3 days on the first email and at least 5 days on the second one. No one reached out about a gift certificate or a change in dates. We had to go through our Credit Card company just to get a response from these people. How a company responds when things don’t go according to plan is how you should judge them. This company basically ignored me. Look at the other bad reviews and they will say the same. 0 Stars if I could.

We had a fantastic stay at Mama Gertie’s. The campsites on Tier 3 have an excellent view of the mountains. The sunsets from the deck were unforgettable. The bathhouse is sparkly clean and so roomy. Swannanoa is so close to anything you’d want to do in the Asheville area. We will definitely be back next summer!

Absolutely the best campground I’ve ever stayed at! Very hilly and there is a beautiful lookout at the top of the mountain!!! Small stream, and there are camping cabins available! Highly recommend!

Great experience even though just for a night. The staff helps you park which is good because spaces are small and the campground is steep. Each site is nicely landscaped and maintained, though small. Close to Asheville and tucked away in the mountains.

Nice place. Staff was very helpful. We asked for a late checkout. No problem. The upper sites are really gorgeous. These are not open in the winter months. Can be treacherous

Mama Gertie’s was the first stop on our maiden voyage with the new RV. After checking in Rhonda led us to our campsite in her golf cart and was so helpful. It was the first time we hooked up to electric, water and waste, so Rhonda had some great pointers that saved us time and probably a little embarrassment. The sites were clean and very well kept, with a fire pit and picnic table. The bathrooms/showers were separate, and the nicest at any campsite I have ever been to. We originally were going to stay two days, but the weather turned snowy and cold. So instead of taking the RV on the icy, hilly, curving mountain roads we decided to stay for two more days. Mama Gertie’s told us there was no charge since we were stuck there with the roads being undriveable. It was a great gesture, but we paid them anyway. Nikki at the front desk was very helpful with all the goings on during the storm, and Bobby the grounds man helped us out the day we left with his knowledge of the road situation we had to deal with. Thanks to all who we met at Mama’s, we will be back.

We stayed at Mama Gertie’s the first week of November, 2021. Beautiful, unique campground. Discounted rate post November 1st. Easy access to the beautiful surrounding area. Great staff. Nice bathrooms/laundry. Minor quibbles - security lights too bright at night, sites a bit narrow. Fall foliage was beautiful.
