Manti Lasal/Warner Lake
Overview
Warner Lake Campground offers a stark contrast to the red rock desert surrounding Moab, providing a high-elevation sanctuary within the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Situated at nearly 9,000 feet, this rustic destination replaces the scorching heat of the valley with cool mountain breezes and lush greenery. It is a premier choice for those seeking a primitive camping experience amidst towering aspen groves and the serene waters of a mountain lake, far removed from the bustling crowds of the nearby national parks.
Location & Surroundings
Located approximately 30 miles southeast of Moab, the campground sits tucked deep into the La Sal Mountains. The journey to the site is an attraction in itself, following the scenic La Sal Mountain Loop Road which winds through dramatic elevation changes and offers panoramic views of the red desert below. The immediate surroundings feature Warner Lake, a small but picturesque body of water that reflects the snow-capped peaks above, creating a tranquil alpine atmosphere unique to this region of Utah.
Amenities & Park Features
As a National Forest site, the amenities are designed for self-contained travelers who enjoy a back-to-basics lifestyle. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring, providing the essentials for a traditional mountain getaway. The park features the following basics:
- Access to potable drinking water during the peak summer season
- Centrally located vault toilets for guest convenience
- Standard back-in sites that accommodate smaller RVs and trailers
It is important to note that there are no electrical, water, or sewer hookups available, and the access road can be narrow with sharp turns, favoring those with compact setups.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The area is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly those interested in high-altitude hiking and mountain biking. The campground provides direct access to the famous Whole Enchilada trail system, specifically the technical Burro Pass section. Anglers can enjoy fishing for trout in Warner Lake, while photographers will find endless inspiration in the golden aspen leaves during the autumn months. The location allows for easy day trips to Arches National Park while providing a cool retreat at night.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for the self-reliant RVer who prioritizes natural beauty and solitude over resort-style amenities. If you are looking to escape the summer heat or want immediate access to backcountry trails, Warner Lake is a perfect fit. It appeals most to travelers with smaller rigs or truck campers who appreciate a quiet, dark-sky environment and the chance to disconnect in a stunning alpine setting without the distractions of modern technology.

The drive up beautiful and daunting. But once you get here, it’s heaven on earth! I don’t know what could beat the experience we had here on top of the world 🌎

Have been visiting for last 40 years. Great stop after trips to Canyonlands or Arches NP. Place to cool off and rest after day in the heat. Beware of some ongoing road construction in the area.

Hands down best camping spot if you are visiting Moab. We came to see Arches and tried to camp closer to town on the Colorado river but it was load and very hot. Warner Campground is an Oasis! It’s 30° cooler, surrounded by aspen trees, clean toilets, and beautiful scenery with a lake! We loved the cows roaming around our kids would moo back to them. You will not be disappointed at Warner.

Cool days, ice cold nights. Lots of wildlife, the lake is freezing cold. The aspen canopy is thick but the campsite is very well maintained. The 5 mile dirt road into camp is steep and winding, but accessible to any vehicle. Vault toilets are as clean as you'll find. This site is 1 hour outside of Moab.
