This is a huge and beautiful state park! I tackled the Hiking Club Trail, which, despite being listed as 6.2 miles, ended up closer to 7 miles. The trail had plenty of ups and downs, something I don’t often get in Minnesota state parks, and I loved the challenge—it was great to get my heart pumping on a more dynamic hike. If you're looking for a mildly challenging trail, this is a fantastic option. That said, the hike became more strenuous for different reasons—the melting ice and the messy conditions that come with it definitely made things tricky. Also, there was a lot of horse manure along the trail, which slowed down my pace due to the uneven ground. Despite these challenges, I appreciated the hiking diversity this park offers. I can already tell that fall would be absolutely stunning here, and it’s likely an even better experience in summer and fall. Definitely worth a visit!

First time winter camping with a cabin and it worked out well. The cabins are really nice with 4 bunks heat and electricity. The screen porch is helpful and the fire pit with grate was perfect for cooking and just having a fire. Ski trails were freshly groomed although these trails are a little narrow they worked out just fine.

Morning or evening is the best for rich colors, for this spectacular drive of maples and birch!!!🧡❤️🤎 Lots of places to stop and photograph or picnic to make the most of this last chance for peak performance!!! 🍁Some cars drove slowly, so take your time. Beautifull! Outhouses are cemented, one facility, handsanitizer, and Tp supplied. No running water. Trails are flat, gravel, and easy to navigate. The hill walk has at least 3 sitting/rest benches on the way up. Worth the drive 10/16. But windy, leave won't last long. 🍂

If you have no intention of going to the beach, this is a 5 star park. This park has, quite literally, the worst beach we have ever been to. My 13 year old said that the beach ruined his day. Pretend you book a hotel based on several factors, including a pool - this would be like walking in and finding a pool the size of a hot tub. It looks like a decent sized beach on Google maps, but the image is deceiving. It was moderately busy, but again, quite literally, no matter where you went in the marked beach area, you were no more than 3 feet away from another person. I am not exaggerating. Okay, now the other parts of the park. The campground is great, newer facilities, private showers, dishwashing station - perfect. The trails are beautiful and plentiful. Lovely lakes and rolling hills. Sadly, we were looking forward to a relaxing day at the beach after 10 miles of hiking, we hauled all of our gear down to the beach, and headed back to our campsite in about 45 minutes.
