Overview

Mara Provincial Park is a seasonal destination known primarily for its stunning sandy beach on the shores of Lake Simcoe. As a smaller provincial park, it offers a more intimate and quiet experience compared to some of its larger neighbors in the Ontario system. The park serves as a peaceful gateway for RVers looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the regional landscape without sacrificing proximity to local urban conveniences.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just outside the city of Orillia, ON, the park is nestled along the northeastern shore of Lake Simcoe. The surrounding area is characterized by lush woodlands and the expansive, sparkling waters of the lake, providing a serene backdrop for any camping trip. Its central location makes it an easy drive for travelers exploring the Trent-Severn Waterway or those looking for a quick escape from the Greater Toronto Area.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers will find well-maintained facilities, including electric campsites that can accommodate various rig sizes. The park features clean comfort stations equipped with flush toilets and showers, as well as a convenient laundry facility for those on longer journeys. For essential maintenance, a sanitation station and water filling area are easily accessible, ensuring a smooth and functional experience for self-contained vehicles.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The main draw is undoubtedly the wide sandy beach, which is considered one of the best in the region for swimming and sunbathing. Beyond the park gates, visitors can explore the historic charm of downtown Orillia or visit the nearby Casino Rama for entertainment and dining. Boating and fishing are popular activities on Lake Simcoe, while nearby trails offer excellent opportunities for cycling through the picturesque Ontario countryside.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for families and couples who prioritize beach access and a relaxed, low-key atmosphere. It is particularly well-suited for RVers who enjoy a balance between quiet nature and the ability to drive into town for supplies or local attractions. If you are looking for a well-kept lakeside retreat with straightforward amenities and beautiful sunsets, Mara provides a classic Ontario camping experience.

Mara provincial park is a beautiful park located on lake simcoe. The beach is gorgeous with somewhat clean water. The beach/day use area is huge, lots of picnic tables and space for families. We stopped here after they were closed for the season for a hike and to check out the beach. The gate is closed but there are a few parking spots at the entrance.

Our go-to beach!! Nice sand.. clear water.. beautiful backdrop.. and good parking distance to beach for easy moving. Located in Orillia it beats driving east or west imo. Something about going north just feels right. 😎 There is a decent sized playground located right on the main beach which the kids loved and actually spent quite some time there as a break from the lake. Will definitely be camping here every year.

Beautiful park and beach. Nice little hiking area off to the side. I saw minks, crawfish frogs, varieties of wild mushrooms and lots of different birds. Large sand area at beach. Clean bathrooms. Very friendly staff as well.

This park got a 4* from me only because the water was murky, and there were a number of boats blasting their music the whole day. Otherwise, the beach is lovely, wide, and well maintained. The washrooms were quite clean. The were a lot of young families because the water is shallow and kids can freely. There is also a playground on the beach.
