We went during the fall colors, Early October so we had the whole loop to ourselves. We started on site 29 and then moved to 39 after 2 days of battering wind. Once we moved our site to behind some trees the wind died completely off of the lake and it was beautiful (lol). The sites were small with a few large ones, all with vegetation walls between for privacy! NO frills, just a ring a post to hang stuff on and a picnic table.

Loop 2, site 18, is our favorite. Camped June 3 to the morning of June 8th. Weather was beautiful. Mosquitoes were abundant and voracious. Nice breeze off the lake helped keep them at bay. We enjoyed our time. Very little other campers that week, but there must have a lot of campers the week before. Only bad to report was the garage/ dumpster was brimming, over filled with garbage. Noticed it was full when we arrived, and was not emptied our entire week. But always love to hear the Loon's on the lake.

Beautiful campground with large, semi private spaces. Lots of trees. Many sites have access to the lake either directly or via stairs. We visited in late October and had the place to ourselves. Services were shut down for the season but we are self-sufficient in the RV. Perfect place to camp while grouse hunting in the national forest. Road in is asphalt and hard dirt and is in good condition.

At the end of September, 2022, on my way to Canada, I decided to spend the night in the Ottawa National Forest, at Marion Campground. There were a few loops… and as far as I remember, I did not see any other campers, all campsites were vacant! Since I was planning to spend only one night there, it did not matter what kind of campsite I got—eventually, I picked site number 15 (N46° 16.017' W89° 05.100'), with a lake-view (not that it made a difference!) It was getting dark & raining and I reluctantly set up the tent as quickly as possible, then spent some time in the car reading something and finally sneaked into the tent and quickly fell asleep. Just in case I had 2 cans of bear spray with me, but nothing disturbed me. I'm sure it's a very nice campground in the summer and many campsite are very close to the lake.

A several mile drive on gravel roads off Highway 2 brings you to this sizable rustic campground on a top-tier lake. A portion of this campground is open year-round, the remaining portion is only open during summer. Lakeside sites come in several varieties. Some are flatter to the water, others are higher on a ridge.
