Mariposa Fairgrounds

Overview

The Mariposa County Fairgrounds and Exposition Center offers a straightforward and practical RVing experience in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Primarily used as a functional base for exploring the region, the park provides a no-frills camping environment that emphasizes convenience and accessibility. It is managed by the local district agricultural association, ensuring a community-oriented atmosphere that transitions from a quiet retreat to a bustling hub during fair season and local events.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just south of the historic town of Mariposa, the fairgrounds are located along Highway 49, a route famous for its connection to California’s Gold Rush history. The surrounding landscape features rolling oak-studded hills and a classic Mediterranean climate. Because it sits at an elevation of approximately 2,000 feet, visitors enjoy cooler evenings than the central valley while remaining below the heavy snow lines of the higher Sierras.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility provides spacious sites that can accommodate a variety of rig sizes, including larger motorhomes. Most sites offer water and electrical hookups, with a central dump station available for guest use. On-site amenities include clean restrooms and shower facilities, providing the essentials for a comfortable stay. The park is pet-friendly, allowing travelers to bring their companions along as they explore the vast natural beauty of Mariposa County.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for many visitors is the close proximity to Yosemite National Park, located roughly 30 miles away via Highway 140. Beyond the national park, guests can explore the California State Mining and Mineral Museum located right on the fairgrounds. The historic downtown Mariposa offers charming boutiques, local eateries, and architectural landmarks that tell the story of the 1849 Gold Rush, making it a perfect afternoon destination.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for budget-conscious travelers and Yosemite explorers who prioritize a convenient location over luxury resort amenities. It serves as an excellent choice for those attending local events or livestock shows, as well as RVers seeking a reliable staging point before heading into the rugged wilderness. If you value a secure, easy-to-access spot with plenty of room to maneuver your rig, this fairground provides a practical solution.

The fairgrounds are nice and hold many events. The grounds need a little TLC, repairs, and freshen up. There was one food vendor that was horrible..."Funtime amusem" had run out of food in the morning, didn't put in ingredients as advertised, and very poor quality. However, "Lemondrop" was outstanding, excellent service, and good food. The museum on the fairgrounds is fun to visit as well.

Went to the Pow-Wow. The Pow-Wow showcases different Indian dance completions. Loved the little tikes doing their tribal Indian dance. Difficulty finding a park.
