It is a well-maintained state facility that emphasizes the calm rhythm of river life while providing essential comforts for modern travelers who appreciate the great outdoors.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in McClure, Ohio, the park sits prominently on the historic Maumee River. The landscape is characterized by lush riparian forests and the gentle flow of the water, which was once a vital part of the Erie and Miami Canal system. Travelers will find themselves surrounded by vast agricultural fields and small-town charm, making the park feel like a secluded oasis tucked away from the busier metropolitan areas of Toledo and Defiance.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground features sites equipped with 20/30/50-amp electrical hookups, accommodating various RV sizes. On-site facilities include a dump station, potable water, and a full-service marina that caters to boating enthusiasts. For those who enjoy active recreation, the park offers well-marked hiking trails that wind through the woods and along the riverbank, as well as designated picnic spots and a playground perfect for families.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Water activities are the main draw here, with the Maumee River being a premier destination for walleye and white bass fishing. Boaters can utilize the park's launch ramps to explore the scenic river stretch between the Grand Rapids and Independence dams. Just a short drive away, the charming village of Grand Rapids offers boutique shopping and local dining, while history buffs can visit the nearby Providence Metropark to see a functional canal lock.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is an ideal match for boaters and anglers who want direct access to one of Ohio's most significant waterways. It also appeals to retirees and couples looking for a quiet, scenic stopover where they can enjoy birdwatching or a sunset stroll by the river. Mary Jane Thurston State park is a peaceful little park on the Maumee River. We love it here, and the sites are spacious. There is a small playground down by the water sites. There is not a shower house, but there are port-a- potties. There is a shower house just a little down the road at the marina. There is where you will find the dump station, and potable water. You can walk the dike into the town of Grand Rapids. It's a cute little town. There is great fishing on the river! And an 18 hole disc golf course. Home to the apple butter festival!! The sunset on the river is phenomenal.

We enjoyed our visit to Mary Jane Thurston State Park. The park is located on the banks of the Muamee River just west of Grand Rapids Ohio. We stopped in the Visitors Center / Park office near the marina. The park manager was friendly and helpful. They offer kayak rentals and have boat docking available at the Marina with Restroom and shower facilities as well as a campground. The park is rather small compared to most but there are some trails and a park loop. We enjoyed a stroll through the Story Book Trail which children would love.

This is a fairly small state park, but still worth checking out. There are several nice trails, the storybook trail is geared for families as it has lots of signs with animal facts that are great for kids. The campground is a bit small, which is nice in that it prevents over-crowding. There are vending machines with drinks and the office has a store that sells snacks, drinks, and other items. One of the nicest features of this park is just how close it is to Grand Rapids, which is a cool town, and to Providence metro park. The hours on google maps are waaaaaaaaay off. Obviously they don't close at 4 pm, they close at 11 pm. I have no idea where they came up with that wonky time.

We really enjoyed camping here. Several spots are right on the water. This whole area is cool ,fun & unique. The showers are huge and single occupancy but the are only 2. They are at the marina bu there are pit toilets at camp. Easy to reserve online & no check in on arrival make it simple too.
