Stayed at the "Cottontail" Cabin. It felt like we were the only ones there. Very peaceful and quiet location. Beautiful sagebrush and grasslands. Only wished I could have stayed longer.

Stayed over the weekend in September, not crowded, peaceful, clean, cannot comment on the bathrooms or showers as I have a travel trailer. Has electric, water, and common dump station. Was definitely pleasantly surprised. Will revisit in the future if in the area.

You know the sleeper in fantasy football? That’s this park - it doesn’t look like it will be amazing, but it’s super peaceful and has great trails for both humans and dogs. Has fishing spots for those that fish and the snake river is the most beautiful river ever. It’s our favorite. If you value peace and are not looking for your campground to entertain your kids or dogs so you don’t have to, you’d probably like this place.

Absolutely amazing! I highly recommend checking out the visitor center. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel very welcome. If you have kids, definitely stop by and grab yourself a junior Ranger backpack. The plant walk is a must-do. The campsites are spacious and super clean, probably one of the best we’ve stayed at. There’s so much history here, and it’s absolutely beautiful. We stayed in the lower campground during the Fourth of July weekend, and it wasn’t busy at all. If you want to be away from the road, definitely recommend the lower campground. The park offers a variety of activities, including disc golf, boating, fishing, kayaking, and paddleboards (of course, you have to bring your own). There are so many trails to hike as well, and you can also see the wagon ruts, which I found absolutely amazing. We also enjoyed seeing all the wildlife, from bats to lizards to birds. They had showers and bathrooms throughout the park, which were very clean. The only downfall was that there was no light in the bathrooms, so it was pretty dark at night.

Massacre Rocks State Park is a hidden gem that truly embodies the beauty of nature. From the moment you arrive, the stunning scenery captivates your senses. The dramatic rock formations, lush greenery, and expansive views are simply breathtaking. It's a fantastic spot for hiking and photography, offering various trails that showcase the park's diverse landscapes. The staff and rangers at the park were exceptionally nice and helpful. Their friendliness added to the overall positive experience, as they provided valuable information and answered all our questions with enthusiasm. It's clear that they are passionate about preserving this beautiful area. The campground area is well-maintained and provides a great place to relax after a day of exploring. Campsites are spacious, and they offer a perfect balance of privacy and access to nature. Whether you're a seasoned camper or new to the experience, it’s a delightful spot to unwind and connect with the outdoors. Overall, Massacre Rocks State Park is a must-visit destination for anyone looking to enjoy beautiful scenery, friendly staff, and a nice campground atmosphere.

The name may say “Massacre,” but what we found was peace. Towering rock formations, desert winds brushing through sage, and the Snake River flowing like a ribbon through time. A powerful and unexpectedly beautiful stop in Idaho.

Beautiful area, spaced sort of close together depending on site. Bathrooms, electric, water, trails. Dump station close by. Only there for overnight, would love to come back for more exploring. Register rock is close by, an interesting Oregon Trail site.

I usually stay over here in the off-season, on my way from Montana to Oregon. It’s a very pleasant site, almost secluded, with some quality views of the snake River as well as Riverside access. The campsites are quite nice, there are also small cabins. Overall, a very nice place for an overnighter off the interstate.

Unfortunately the boat launch is currently under construction, making it unavailable through the fall, but I was able to slip my kayak in the Snake River via the picnic area. A paddle around the area was magical with high cliffs and boulder rising up slong the river banks. Beautiful turquoise water was too cold for swimming, but was great for birdwatching as well. Several Western Grebes were spotted raising their families along the grassy island located in front of the park. Try to get a campsite in the lower loop to be sheltered from highway noise. Nice comfort station and hiking trails along the river afford great views as well.
