Maupin City Park

Overview

Maupin City Park serves as a central hub for outdoor enthusiasts visiting the lower Deschutes River region of Central Oregon. Nestled within the city limits of Maupin, this park offers a unique blend of municipal convenience and direct access to rugged natural beauty. It is widely recognized as a premier base camp for whitewater rafting and world-class fly fishing, providing a well-maintained space where travelers can relax. The park maintains a friendly, communal atmosphere that captures the spirit of a true riverside adventure town.

Location & Surroundings

The park is situated directly on the banks of the Lower Deschutes River, a designated Wild and Scenic waterway known for its consistent flows and dramatic scenery. The surrounding landscape is characterized by high desert canyons and steep basalt rimrocks, offering a striking backdrop for every campsite. Because it is located within the town of Maupin, visitors are within walking distance of local fly shops and restaurants while remaining just steps away from the water's edge.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility provides a range of camping options to suit different travel styles, including several full-hookup RV sites and dedicated tent areas. Essential amenities for a comfortable stay include:

  • Clean restrooms and coin-operated showers
  • A public boat ramp for easy river ingress and egress
  • Multiple picnic shelters and a community playground
  • Mature shade trees that offer protection from the high desert sun

The park also features a dump station and potable water, ensuring that RV travelers have the functional support needed for extended trips along the river corridor.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Adventure is the primary draw in this region, with many visitors booking guided whitewater rafting trips through local outfitters based just minutes away. Anglers flock to the area for legendary trout and steelhead fishing, particularly during the famous Salmonfly hatch. Beyond the water, visitors can explore White River Falls State Park, which features a stunning tiered waterfall and historical ruins, or take a scenic drive through the vast plateau lands that define this portion of the state.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for active outdoor adventurers who want to be in the heart of the action. It is perfectly suited for groups of rafters, fishing parties, and families who enjoy a lively, community-oriented environment. While it offers the necessary utilities for RVers, the unbeatable river access makes it most popular among those who prioritize recreation and convenience over the secluded isolation of more remote canyon camps.

We recently camped at City Park in Maupin with a very large group using more then half of the tent sites and 10 RV sites. We love staying at City Park in Maupin for our whitewater rafting adventures. Management has always been friendly. Love the the ability to shower and use flushing toilets! We look forward to being there again next year!

This could be a great experience IF the staff who resides at the park actually respected their tenants in the campground .. yeah the folks that pay their way. Who manages this place? Loud partying and campfires at midnight and even until 3am are the norm 8/15-16/25, while campground visitors would never be allowed to behave this way. Truly unbelievable behavior from our park hosts. Seemingly oblivious and uninterested in how their behavior impacts those who are paid visitors who are trying to sleep literally mere feet away from their ‘backyard’ fireside antics, this crew parties on with no restriction. Why would I ever consider coming back or recommending to others. Completely unacceptable behavior by park management. Our world today. Pretty sad. City of Maupin - what the hell??? Been coming here for years and can’t believe this recent experience. Fix it.

We camped at Maupin City Park for our son's birthday. We had group site one and RV space 20. Great location, clean sites and restrooms. Super friendly and helpful staff!

Stayed over night here for a women’s kayaking trip. We were in site 1. Held 11 of us in tents. Right on the water. Was perfect. We put in upstream about 3 miles and kayaked down to our site. At lunch then jumped back in our boats and took out after oak springs. Perfect location. Potable water. Clean bathroom and there were showers. Next door was a hotel with outside fire pit, restaurant/bar.,

I went to visit some friends in Maupin, and had a great time. I realized I was to tired to drive back home that same day, and I called the number on the door of the campground. John answered, told me to pick a spot, and he would come by and do the paperwork later. The next day I asked if there were any openings for an upcoming event, which John walked me through the process, secured my site, and now I know I can come again to visit my friends knowing I will have a clean site, clean restrooms, and a nice view of the river. I do recommend this place if you do go to Maupin.
