McHood Park
Overview
Overview
McHood Park serves as a unique recreational stop located near the town of Winslow, Arizona. Managed by the city, this public facility is situated adjacent to the Clear Creek Reservoir. It is an ideal destination for travelers who prioritize proximity to nature and outdoor water activities over resort-style luxury. The atmosphere is generally quiet and relaxed, offering a scenic high-desert environment that serves as a refreshing change of pace for those traveling through Northern Arizona.
Location & Surroundings
Positioned just a few miles south of Winslow, the park offers convenient access to historic Route 66 while maintaining a secluded feel. Surrounded by rocky cliffs and the waters of the reservoir, the site provides a distinctive landscape that is quite different from the typical desert plains found elsewhere in the region. Travelers will find it easy to reach while feeling far removed from the noise of interstate highways, making it a peaceful stopover.
Amenities & Park Features
The park is primarily focused on outdoor recreation and provides basic facilities for visitors. It features primitive camping spots along with some improved sites suitable for smaller rigs. Visitors can take advantage of boat ramps and picnic areas maintained by the municipality. Because this is a public park facility, amenities remain functional and straightforward, catering specifically to those who are self-contained in their RVs and looking to enjoy the reservoir setting.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Beyond the park itself, the primary activity is fishing or paddling on the Clear Creek Reservoir. A short drive back into Winslow allows travelers to visit the famous Standin' on the Corner Park, a tribute to the classic song, or explore the historic La Posada Hotel. The area also acts as a convenient gateway for those planning day trips to the Petrified Forest National Park or the Painted Desert, which are located to the east.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is best suited for nature-loving RVers who prefer a rustic, waterfront setting rather than a full-service commercial campground. It appeals to anglers, kayakers, and those who enjoy a quieter overnight experience. If you are a traveler who appreciates minimalist, public-land style camping with beautiful cliffside views, McHood Park offers a memorable, budget-friendly experience that captures the raw, rugged beauty of the Arizona high desert landscape.

Restrooms are not working, but you can go to the love station in Winslow arizona, there is a dump station and water fill there as well. There is no electricity so fill up on propane and and gas for your generator.

Was a cool experience. Camp sites are close together but there was hardly anyone they and the on site camp host never even came around to check my ticket. Beautiful area, beautiful lake. Lots of ducks. I stayed on a Thursday night, it's probably busier during the weekend.

This is definitely an oasis in the desert! This place surprised me when I went searching for it after hearing about it. This campground located by Clear Creek Reservoir offers fishing, boating, paddleboarding as well as a picnic area and bbq pits for daily &/or nightly use. There's no electric or water hookups at the campground, but is a clean and basic place to enjoy peace and solitude.

$7 day use/$15 overnight. Pleasant enough place except bathroom/shower blockhouse not functional. Toilet full of excrement, no water for shower. Nice scenery, quiet and off the road. If I had checked the bath/shower situation before checking in I would've just driven on.
