Medicine Bow-Routt/Lincoln Park

Overview

Medicine Bow-Routt/Lincoln Park offers a tranquil escape within the Brush Creek-Hayden Ranger District. Located at an elevation of approximately 7,800 feet, this campground serves as a gateway to the high-country wilderness of southern Wyoming. Travelers visit to experience the untouched beauty of the national forest while remaining within reach of local mountain towns. It is a place where the sounds of the wind through the pines replace the noise of the city, providing a genuine mountain retreat for those looking to disconnect.

Location & Surroundings

Situated a short drive from the town of Saratoga, the park is surrounded by the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Medicine Bow range. The landscape is characterized by dense stands of lodgepole pine and vibrant wildflower meadows that peak during the summer months. Its proximity to the Snowy Range Scenic Byway makes it an ideal base camp for those wishing to explore one of the most picturesque drives in the American West while enjoying the crisp, high-altitude mountain air.

Amenities & Park Features

This is a traditional, rustic camping experience designed for those who enjoy off-grid living. The park provides basic facilities, but visitors should note that there are no electric, water, or sewer hookups available. The sites are generally well-spaced, offering natural privacy that is often missing from modern commercial RV resorts. Key features include:

  • Hand-pumped drinking water available seasonally
  • Dedicated picnic tables and fire rings at every site
  • Clean vault toilet facilities maintained by the Forest Service

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor recreation is the primary draw for visitors to this region. Anglers often head to the North Platte River for world-class fly fishing, while others prefer relaxing in the local mineral waters. Popular activities include:

  • Soaking in the Saratoga Hobo Hot Springs
  • Hiking trails throughout the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forest
  • Viewing wildlife such as moose and mule deer in their natural habitat

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for self-contained RVers and boondockers who prioritize scenery and solitude over luxury amenities. If you prefer a quiet morning surrounded by nature rather than a crowded clubhouse, you will feel right at home here. It is particularly suited for adventure seekers looking to explore the rugged beauty of Wyoming’s high-country without the distractions of modern technology or heavy tourist traffic.

Clean beautiful campsite. The host does a great job keeping the place ready for new guests. I will be back

A small, quiet campground. Not sure how people are reserving sites since it seemed to be first come first serve. No hookups, not a lot of space for giant campers, but there are a few spots. Small restroom, no running water except for a hand pump well.

We had a fantastic campsite. The camp host came over and introduced himself and actually told us it was the best site in the campground. So we were lucky. The stars were so bright at night, they looked like Christmas lights. The rush of the river lulled us to sleep and we slept like babies. Will definitely go back and hope to get this same exact spot! Beautiful area.
