Memphis Lake SRA
Overview
Memphis Lake SRA offers a serene and traditional camping experience tucked away in the heart of eastern Nebraska. Originally established as a reservoir for the state's fish hatcheries, this 160-acre recreation area has evolved into a beloved spot for those who appreciate natural beauty over resort-style flash. The park centers around a scenic 45-acre lake, providing a tranquil backdrop for RVers seeking a slower pace of life under a canopy of mature shade trees.
Location & Surroundings
Situated near the charming town of Ashland, NE, the park sits conveniently between Nebraska’s two largest urban centers, Omaha and Lincoln. Despite its proximity to these cities, the environment feels worlds away, characterized by rolling hills and agricultural landscapes. The surrounding Saunders County area provides a classic Midwest atmosphere, where the sounds of the highway are replaced by the rustle of cottonwoods and the calls of migratory birds.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is well-equipped for modern travelers, offering electric hookups at many of its sites alongside primitive options for a more rustic stay. Water and dump stations are available for guest use. The lake itself is restricted to non-powered craft or electric motors, ensuring the water remains glassy and quiet. Visitors can enjoy well-maintained hiking trails that circle the water, multiple picnic shelters, and a playground for families traveling with children.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
While the park itself is quiet, it serves as a perfect base camp for exploring major regional highlights. Just a short drive away, you can explore the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum or visit the Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Wildlife Safari. For those seeking more high-energy activities, Eugene T. Mahoney State Park offers water parks and theater, allowing you to enjoy the excitement nearby before returning to the peaceful shores of Memphis Lake.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for bird watchers and anglers who value a quiet environment where they can focus on their hobbies without the noise of jet skis or heavy traffic. It is a fantastic choice for RVers who prefer a natural, state-park vibe over a private resort. If your travel style involves reading by the lake, gentle strolls, and enjoying the simplicity of a Nebraska sunset, Memphis Lake SRA will feel like home.

Great place to camp. Very quiet and the lake scene is beautiful. Extremely relaxing weekend, Kayaking and resting outside by the camper. The only problem we had was with the electrical hookups. The 30 AMP circuit did not work on Camper site 68, so we spent the weekend in extremely hot weather, without the use of our AC. We tried calling the number but only got voicemail. / Spent $30 each night without the ability to stay cool. We also didn't appreciate people parking in a spot next to their camper, just to keep others from setting up and blocking their view.

Great camp ground. Very clean and secluded. I will say I didn’t catch any fish but that’s probably me just being bad a fishing. It is close to a cow farm so occasionally the wind will blow just right and you’ll get a big wiff of manure.

Clean well maintained hidden little park and lake near Omaha. We had a great time here but be warned there is a feed lot nearby so on a windy day might catch a whiff. Decent dark sky if interested in astronomy pics

We had a great time!! There were primitive restrooms which was nice. It was a bit crowded for MY liking, but I tend to be a hermit when I camp! Open space and people generally seemed respectful of the 6ft on leash policy for dogs which I loved! Only stayed for a night, was a bit buggy around dusk (but where outside isn’t this time of year??) but was much less so than a lot of other sites we’ve stayed at!! There are geese, but they are respectful and cute! Minimal goose poo and no “smell”! Saw some little goslings!

Loved this campground! It was quiet. Decent primitive bathrooms which were super close to our camper in either direction. Took a nice walk around the lake which was about 1.8 miles unpaved flat grass around the backside of the lake. Dumpsters available.
