Menomonee Park (Waukesha County Park)

Overview

Menomonee Park, a centerpiece of the Waukesha County Park System, spans 464 acres of diverse landscape in Lannon, Wisconsin. This park is best known for its historical roots as a former stone quarry, which has since been transformed into a stunning recreational destination. RV travelers will find a serene environment centered around the **Menomonee Park Quarry**, which offers clear water for swimming and fishing. The park serves as a vital green space that balances active recreation with quiet, natural beauty, providing a refreshing escape for those exploring the Midwest.

Location & Surroundings

Located in the village of Lannon, the park is situated in an area famous for its distinctive limestone. The surrounding terrain features a mix of rolling hills, open fens, and dense hardwoods that provide ample shade for campers. A standout feature of the location is the **Bugline State Trail**, a 16-mile paved path that follows a former railroad line right through the park. Its proximity to the Milwaukee metropolitan area makes it an accessible retreat for those wanting to stay near the city while enjoying a rugged, outdoor setting characterized by **scenic rock faces** and peaceful trails.

Amenities & Park Features

The campground at Menomonee Park provides a traditional outdoor experience with several **wooded campsites** designed for RVs and trailers. Most sites are equipped with 20, 30, or 50-amp electrical hookups, though visitors should note that the park utilizes a central dump station and fresh water fill-up rather than individual sewer connections. Essential features include a **swimming beach** with a bathhouse, multiple picnic areas, an archery range, and a dedicated off-leash dog exercise area, making it a very pet-friendly choice for travelers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw for many visitors is the **Bugline Trail**, which is perfect for biking, running, or casual strolls through the Wisconsin countryside. Anglers can spend the day at the quarry lake, which is frequently stocked with panfish and trout. Beyond the park boundaries, the city of Milwaukee is just a short drive away, offering world-class museums and dining. Locally, the village of Lannon provides a charming glimpse into Wisconsin's quarrying history through its unique **stone architecture** and small-town shops.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is a fantastic choice for **active families** and outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy water-based activities and trail exploration. Because it leans toward a rustic county park vibe rather than a high-end commercial resort, it is ideal for RVers who prefer a quiet evening under the stars. It is particularly well-suited for **cyclists** looking for direct trail access and travelers seeking a well-maintained, nature-focused home base while visiting the broader Waukesha County area.

Gorgeous park, hands down. Lovely lake, bubbling brook, ample hiking trails, pavililion, access to the Ice Age Trail, bike paths, huge dog exercise areas! Even a dog swimming area!

This is my favorite county park in southeast Wisconsin! The lake is beautiful, with nicely labeled trails around it. I camp here often, and enjoy the spacing between sites. The dog beach and summer beer garden are great too.

Camped out here for 5 days. The family camp grounds is heavily wooded, so if the rain is light you can barely feel it. It also helped keep the days cooler in the hot sun! Bathrooms are very basic on the campgrounds. No showers. They do advertise a shower by the swimming hole. However I don't know that I'd recommend it for anything other than a rinse off from the beach. That being said, the beach is really nice. Very clean. Loved the water! Highly recommend this campground for a good weekend away.

One of my ALL TIME FAVES for taking photos at! I have photographed many families, couples, & seniors at Menomonee Park and absolutely love it. I also grew up going here and fishing, swimming, and playing as a kid so it makes me happy to share this park with others.

Our favorite spot locally to explore. We bring bikes for the bug line trail, or sand toys for a beach day, poles for the fishing dock, and boots for the scenic pond loop trail, and love to camp at the family campground. I just wish the playground was rebuilt to be safer for little kids.
