Meridian
Overview
Meridian State Park offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of Bosque County, serving as a quiet sanctuary for travelers exploring the Texas Hill Country. Established in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, this 505-acre park centers around the scenic 72-acre Lake Meridian. It provides a classic outdoor experience characterized by rugged limestone outcroppings and dense woodlands. Visitors often appreciate the calm atmosphere and the opportunity to disconnect while staying in a well-preserved natural environment that feels worlds away from the bustle of the city.
Location & Surroundings
Situated just a short drive from the town of Meridian, the park is nestled within the unique topography of the Bosque Valley. The landscape is defined by rocky ridges and lush vegetation, providing a rich habitat for local wildlife. The shores of the lake serve as the focal point of the property, where the surrounding hills reflect off the water to create a serene backdrop. This transition zone between the Grand Prairie and the Edwards Plateau ensures a diverse array of flora and fauna for visitors to observe.
Amenities & Park Features
The park accommodates various RV types with a range of site options, including full hookup sites and water-electric setups with 30-amp and 50-amp service. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, perfect for evening gatherings. Travelers have access to essential facilities such as:
- Restrooms with hot showers
- A convenient on-site dump station
- A boat ramp for small craft
- The historic limestone refectory for gatherings
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts can explore several miles of well-maintained paths, including the Bosque Hiking Trail, which circles the lake and offers varying elevation changes. Fishing is a primary draw here, as the lake is stocked with bream, catfish, and largemouth bass. Birdwatchers frequently visit during the spring to spot the Golden-cheeked warbler, an endangered species that nests in the park's juniper-oak woodlands. For those looking to explore the local culture, the nearby Bosque Museum in Clifton showcases the region’s Norwegian heritage.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for nature lovers and birders seeking a quiet, small-scale camping experience rather than a high-traffic resort. It is a fantastic choice for paddlers and anglers who prefer the stillness of a no-wake lake. Because of its manageable size and peaceful environment, it is particularly well-suited for families and retirees looking to enjoy the rugged beauty of Central Texas at a slower pace.

We love the state park. We can here as a field trip and the park superintendent planned the perfect day for us. The students had a blast! Attached are pictures of one of the activities.

Very nice park! We stayed 3 nights in a site we weren't excited about- because it was directly across from the dump site - but had no issues with smells. Most all of the trails are accessible from the campsites (short 20-40 minute walks to trailheads) except for the trail on the other side that is really suggest driving to. This park has so much water it's unbelievable. Walk quietly; you'll hear water burbling up all around you. Smaller trails will lead you to beautiful crystal clear ponds, thriving in wildlife. 10/10 will certainly come here again.

Meridian State Park is beautiful, the staff was super friendly. Bathrooms are always kept clean. Keep in mind if you're there in the summer the Lakeside bathrooms tend to be more humid. Only Verizon cell phone service works. You can use park wifi at the office and at the Juniper campground. Make sure to take in the beautiful views. Even if you aren't to hiking some of them beautiful landmark like Bee Ridge is very close to the road and there's parking spot very close

Just popped in for the day to see the park and scope out some spots to camp in a future visit. The park looked great! The lake was clean, with clear water and a nice fishing dock. We did a short hike on one of the many hiking trails that wind through out the park. Fern ledge was super cool! The bathrooms were under construction at the time of our visit, so I wasn't able to review them, and that's the only reason it's at 4 stars. There are a few camp sites up a road that doesn't allow trailers, which is a huge bummer cause I'd love to take the teardrop back there. I can go ground dweller for a couple nights 😜. I'm really anxious to come back to camp, fish, and check out more of the hiking trails. Seems like a really great park!

A hidden gem, for sure! We had a nice peaceful camping trip. It was too windy to kayak, but we'll be back! I love a no wake lake. Lots of wildlife. Good fishing. Caught a lot of blue gill and sunfish, a couple of small bass. Loved the little library and the ranger kit. They loan out fishing gear. If you forgot anything at home, it's just a 5 minute drive to Brookshire Brothers and to Ace Hardware, very convenient. Meridian is a really cute town too.
