Mesa / Apache Junction KOA Journey
Teddy Roosevelt called the Superstition Mountains "the most beautiful panorama nature has created."
Teddy Roosevelt called the Superstition Mountains "the most beautiful panorama nature has created." You'll see why not far from the Mesa/Apache Junction KOA, where giant saguaro cacti rise from the Sonoran Desert floor against a backdrop of craggy granite ramparts. Drive the 145-mile Apache Trail loop, resplendent with deep canyons, rugged trails and pristine lakes. Also nearby, climb a short path up to ancient cliff-dweller Indian ruins at Tonto National Monument. Explore with off-road jeep tours or guided horseback rides into the foothills. Phoenix is 30 miles west of the campground, with great restaurants, museums and a choice of Major League Baseball spring training games. A heated pool, a hot tub, assorted games and fine hospitality await at KOA. Savor them as the sun sets over the mountains. Pool: Open all year. Max pull thru: 65 feet.

We would stay here again. This is a nice park with full hookups. The staff were nice and the park clean overall. It is away from town so there isn't a lot of traffic in the park or on the way in. We used the pool and spa, which were both clean and at a nice temperature. Two disappointments: 1. Our spot was not level. This made the steps very high, and we needed our portable step for safety 2. Although they advertised wifi, it did not work.

This KOA was clean and some sites had shade. My rig barely fit into the site they gave me. The sites are gravel and I had to use levelers. I had some very sketchy neighbors who were also very loud. I even saw one guy talking to himself as he was walking through the park and no, he didn't have earbuds in. There is a small pool as well as a clubhouse. They have a dog run, but it's mostly dust and no shade. The gentlemen who guide you to your site were extremely friendly. This KOA is about 30 minutes to the Phoenix Zoo and Desert Botanical Garden.

We enjoyed our week stay. Very clean, spacious spots, friendly staff, great pool/hot tub, and a short drive to shops, restaurants and things to do. Only downside is the very unreliable, we would say non-existent wi-fi. Not sure why they can't provide better considering they are close to such a big city.

Not the best maintained KOA we've visited, entrance payment was rough , campground was mostly gravel, not paved. Internet was free but pretty shotty (not 5g) so it made working remotely more difficult. The kids had fun in the pool as it was hot the week we visited. I didn't feel this was the safest campground either, entrance wasn't gated and things weren't as well maintained but functional. It was our default stay when there were not many choices to stay in the area that aren't 55+.

There's a variety of camping options - RV w/ hookup, freestanding tent, & cabin. I always go for the cabin. Grounds are always well maintained, bathrooms & showers are always clean & reasonably warm. There's a communal outdoor sink for camp meal cleanup. There's an ice machine & a water dispenser available 24/7, and essential sundries for sale in the office. It's easy to make acquaintance with neighboring campers, or easy enough to ignore them. Staff members are friendly & easy to find, as they make regular rounds of the whole park. The park location gets you near Goldfield Ghost Town & Arizona Renaissance Festival while still being a short drive to Apache Junction & Mesa businesses.

Well-kept RV park, we had a place with a gas grill and a seating area with an umbrella. Clean toilets and well maintained pool. About 45 minutes to downtown Phoenix.

Had to only give it a 3 due to electrical issues. Our RV kept loosing power late in the afternoon due to low voltage. Otherwise would have given it at least a 4. Staff was great!

Super nice people working there and the facility is always so clean, organized, easy to get in and out and close enough to pretty much everything you need. Expressway is easy to get to and grocery stores and restaurants are just around the corner.

Beautiful resort. Very well kept. Pool and hot tub are beautiful. Very quiet. Maintenance men always around cleaning and looking after the resort. Only drawback was that the laundry facilities were down to one washer so had to go elsewhere. I'm sure that will be rectified.
