It is particularly noted for its scenic shoreline and diverse bird population.

Location & Surroundings

Situated just west of Highway 11, the park is conveniently located near the village of South River. The landscape is defined by the crystalline waters of Eagle Lake and thick groves of maple and birch trees. Unlike more crowded provincial parks, Mikisew offers a quieter pace of life while remaining accessible for those traveling through Northern Ontario. The surrounding area is part of the Almaguin Highlands, a region celebrated for its rugged beauty and proximity to the western boundaries of Algonquin Provincial Park.

The park features several campgrounds with a mix of electrical and non-electrical sites suitable for various RV sizes. Travelers have access to modern comfort stations equipped with flush toilets, hot showers, and laundry facilities. For practical RV needs, a sanitation station and water filling points are available near the entrance. Recreational amenities include four sandy beaches, a popular disc golf course, and multiple boat launches. The park also provides rentals for canoes, kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards for those wishing to explore the lake.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the park boundaries, the village of South River offers local shops and supplies for travelers. Adventure seekers often use Mikisew as a jumping-off point for exploring the Lost Channel or embarking on day trips to nearby wilderness areas. Within the park, hikers can enjoy the Point Loop Trail, which offers stunning lake views, or the Beaver Meadow Trail for wildlife spotting. Anglers frequently visit to catch walleye and bass, while the expansive dog exercise area makes it one of the most pet-friendly destinations in the provincial system.

Who This Park Is Best For

Mikisew is an ideal destination for family vacationers who value a mix of water-based activities and forest exploration. Its relatively flat terrain and clean facilities make it accessible for those with small children or older travelers. Park: beautiful with 3 beaches including a dog beach, walking trails, disc golf etc. Sites lack privacy and noise travels easily . However it was nice and quiet. Most people sleep by 10pm here. It was serene. If you want to come with a large group or sit by campire and talk late into thennight this is not the park for you. We loved it however. Washrooms: main facilities very clean Staff: friendly No ice at the park store.

Pros: beautiful scenery, we seen the northern lights, the 7sisters stars, the Milky Way Main bathrooms & showers are clean & accessible A few beach’s are handicap accessible & there is a beautiful off-leash beach for your furry friend Love how dog friendly it is here. You can fish on the dock or on the beach The front desk staff & cleaners were all super nice. Town is not very far if you happen to forget anything If you have time to go to town, visit the crystal cave, you won’t regret it ! Cons: want privacy ? Do not book here, the entrances of the lots are very wide & the tree blockage is minimal due to the deforestation they just did Noise - we were having a conversation around the fire (3 women) on the Saturday of the long weekend, the warden tells us to “lower your voices” AT 10PM!!, unsure how to do that unless we didn’t talk at all considering we were whispering already, the next night we went to bed at 10pm to avoid any issues, I could hear another site loudly partying until 3am, I guess it was to cold for the wardens to care that night .. Bathrooms- do not use any other then the main facility or else the stench of pee will follow you home, the pee was SATURATED into the floors Maps - if your hiking , you are better off not following the maps, the yellow trail is not connected at all like the map says & they aren’t very scenic

Stayed for two nights, the place is spacious and have all the amenities needed. The trail across the street is also part of the park and is nice to hike and beautiful. there's a convenience store north of the camp so if u want some ice cream they got you. Also the place have cell signal coverage if needed

This park is absolutely stunning with its exceptional infrastructure. While they do permit dogs, their strict policy requiring all dogs to be on a leash seems excessive. It raises the question of why one would visit such a natural setting only to have their beloved pet constantly restrained. If you are a dog owner seeking a more liberating experience, I would recommend exploring alternative camping options where you and your furry friend can enjoy a more fulfilling adventure.

Beautiful park. Nice site at 340. Nice dry space for tent or trailer. Close to comfort station. So clean and well kept! Lovely beach and trails. Great way to end the camping season. Parents stayed at 353 no so great. Flooded fire pit area see pics.
