Military Park Goose Creek Campground (Patuxent River Naval Air Station)

Overview

Military Park Goose Creek Campground provides an exclusive and scenic retreat located within the grounds of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station. This destination is managed by the Navy MWR and is designed specifically for active-duty personnel, retirees, and authorized DoD civilians. The park offers a quiet atmosphere where travelers can enjoy the natural beauty of the Maryland coastline while remaining close to the conveniences and security of a major military installation. It serves as an excellent home base for those looking to explore the Chesapeake Bay region in a disciplined yet relaxing environment.

Location & Surroundings

The campground is situated in St. Mary’s County, where the Patuxent River meets the majestic Chesapeake Bay. The surroundings are characterized by picturesque waterfront views and coastal wetlands that attract a variety of local wildlife. Because the park is located on an active naval base, visitors often experience the unique excitement of seeing naval aircraft overhead, adding a distinct character to the stay. The landscape is flat and accessible, offering easy walks to the shoreline where the tranquil river breezes provide a refreshing escape from the summer heat.

Amenities & Park Features

Goose Creek is well-equipped for long-term stays or weekend getaways, featuring sites with full hookups including water, sewer, and both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. The campground includes essential facilities such as clean bathhouses, laundry rooms, and picnic areas for family gatherings. One of the standout features is the direct water access, allowing guests to utilize the on-base boat ramp or spend time at the private beach area. Additionally, guests are just a short drive from base amenities like the commissary, exchange, and fitness centers.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

History and aviation enthusiasts will find the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum located just outside the base gates, showcasing a massive collection of vintage aircraft. For a change of pace, a short drive takes you to Solomon’s Island, known for its charming riverwalk and excellent seafood dining. Nature lovers should not miss Calvert Cliffs State Park, where you can hike through wooded trails to reach cliffs famous for fossil hunting and finding prehistoric shark teeth along the sandy shore of the bay.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is the ideal choice for military families and retirees who value a secure and community-oriented camping experience. It is perfect for those who enjoy water-based activities like fishing, kayaking, or simply watching the ships go by. Horrible place. Do not waste your money. You pay over $3000 annually for a site with zero benefits. The bathhouses have been out of commission for over 2 years with promises to have them up and running. There is also no septic hook up and to have your rv pumped they charge you. They also have a beautiful dock and launch unfortunately the launch fee is not included in your annual lot lease. This place is dirty hole in the wall and you get nothing for your money. Stay away at all costs!!!!!

I really liked my site. Good tree coverage and a lot of space. It felt like it could have been two separate spots. Good for a weekend getaway to relax and leave the world behind. Phone service in the area isn't good if you have T-Mobile. Dumpsite is about 3 or 4 miles down the road. Staff was awesome. The are pleasant and very helpful.

Stone locations are better than others as far as view. Great location for base beach and golf course. Ended up leaving a couple days early because camp spot was boring.

Nice and cozy. I tent camped on a Thursday and Friday night. The main bathhouse has showers and toilets but there's also porta-potties appropriately dispersed throughout the site. Expect tons of aircraft noise during working hours, but not so much otherwise.
