Military Park Onslow Beach Campsites & Recreation Area (Camp Lejeune MCB)

Overview

Military Park Onslow Beach offers a unique coastal getaway exclusively for DoD ID card holders and their families. Situated directly on the Atlantic shoreline within the expansive grounds of Camp Lejeune, this recreation area provides a rare opportunity to camp where the ocean meets military tradition. It is a place where the rhythmic sound of the surf provides a peaceful soundtrack to your stay. The park manages to balance its role as a training area with its function as a premier coastal retreat, offering visitors a sense of security and community that is hard to find at public campgrounds.

Location & Surroundings

Located within the borders of Jacksonville, NC, the park is uniquely positioned between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. The surroundings are defined by miles of unspoiled beachfront and coastal dunes that create a ruggedly beautiful landscape. To reach the park, visitors travel through the historic grounds of Camp Lejeune, eventually crossing onto the barrier island where the air turns salty and the horizon opens up. This secluded location ensures a private atmosphere while remaining just a short drive from the services and amenities of the main base.

Amenities & Park Features

The facility is well-equipped for long-term stays and weekend trips alike, offering numerous full-hookup RV sites that accommodate a variety of trailer and motorhome sizes. Guests benefit from well-maintained bathhouses, convenient laundry facilities, and outdoor pavilions perfect for group gatherings. For recreation, the park provides direct beach access for swimming, shelling, and sunbathing. There are also specialized areas for fishing and nearby boat ramps that allow travelers to explore the intricate waterways of the North Carolina coast with ease.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the beach is the primary draw, the surrounding area of Jacksonville offers plenty to explore. History buffs will appreciate the Lejeune Memorial Gardens and the Museum of the Marine, which honor the legacy of those who have served. For nature lovers, a trip to Hammocks Beach State Park provides an opportunity for kayaking through salt marshes. Local seafood restaurants in the nearby town of Swansboro offer a taste of regional flavors, while the on-base exchanges provide convenient shopping for daily essentials during your stay.

Who This Park Is Best For

This destination is specifically designed for military families, retirees, and eligible civilians who value a secure and affordable vacation spot. In the past few years, we have stayed in all of the available cabin sizes, and they are always consistent and clean, and folks are always kind and helpful.

The customer service when you call for reservations is the absolute worst lol It is so bad that is completely comical. Called placed on hold by a person and then left for 30 minutes only to be hung up on.when I called back no answer. I do not recommend making reservations over the phone with Onslow beach MCCS. I actually pressed another department to make my reservations. Appreciate the facilities and the hospitality but the customer service and the maintenance is lackluster. I won’t even bother with how I was jostled about through emails and phones that weren’t even monitored when I called and complained lol

Location was absolutely beautiful. The beach house was very comfortable when sharing with 5 other people. Buatiful beach, saw seagulls everywhere. If you want to go seashell hunting this beach is the place.

Was here for the beach. The houses that can be rented are amazing, but I have not stayed in them. The beach itself is a true treasure. Highly recommend!

I've been coming to Onslow beach since I was a kid. I am about to be 39 here in a couple months, so i have got alot of time there. I love Onslow beach. The waves, the shells(definitely beats other local beaches on shells and sharks teeth.), the cabanas, and the beach houses. We used to rent one just about every October for my birthday. Back in the day they used to have trailers out there. They were actually really nice. Can't wait to get back out there. I got to wait 9 days though bc work has me in Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
