Military Park Raccoon Creek Rec Area (MacDill AFB)
Overview
Located at the southern tip of Tampa on MacDill Air Force Base, Military Park Raccoon Creek Rec Area offers a unique waterfront experience for eligible military travelers. This FamCamp provides a secure environment where visitors can enjoy the gentle breezes of Tampa Bay while remaining close to the heart of the city. The park is well-regarded for its clean facilities and the welcoming community of fellow service members and retirees who frequent the site year-round for both short and long-term stays.
Location & Surroundings
The park is situated directly on the shores of Tampa Bay, offering stunning views and a tranquil atmosphere away from the city's hustle. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Raccoon Creek and the bay, guests often spot local wildlife like dolphins or migratory birds right from their campsites. Because it is located within MacDill AFB, the surrounding area is meticulously maintained and provides a level of security and quiet that is difficult to find in public metropolitan RV parks.
Amenities & Park Features
Campers have access to well-maintained sites featuring full hookups with both 30 and 50-amp electrical service. The park infrastructure is designed to support modern RVs while providing the essentials for a comfortable stay. Key features include:
- Modern bathhouses and laundry facilities
- A dedicated FamCamp office for guest assistance
- Access to the MacDill AFB commissary and exchange
The proximity to the water makes it an excellent spot for launching a kayak or enjoying a quiet evening at the picnic areas located near the creek.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
While the base offers a retreat-like feel, the excitement of Tampa is just a short drive away. Guests can explore the historic streets of Ybor City or take a scenic stroll along Bayshore Boulevard, one of the longest continuous sidewalks in the world. For family-friendly adventures, the Florida Aquarium and Busch Gardens are nearby highlights. Additionally, the famous white sands of Clearwater and St. Pete beaches are easily accessible for a day of sun and surf.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is ideal for active-duty military and retirees who value security and a sense of camaraderie during their travels. It serves as an excellent home base for "snowbirds" looking to escape the winter cold in a sunny coastal climate. Whether you are a solo traveler seeking a safe stopover or a family wanting to explore the Gulf Coast, the park offers a perfect balance of military convenience and Florida vacation vibes.

Nice FamCamp! Kinda stinks though if you show up after the office closes and want to get on the road early. No payment envelopes. The Night Host won't take the money. Really? We stayed in overflow (nice place) but I couldn't leave till 10am! Couldn't I put the lousy $15 through a slot in the door or something? It got worse the next day. Half an hour in the office to register so I could check out? After waiting till 10am for the office to open?

FamCamp is an incredible RV park and one of the best places to enjoy Tampa Bay. The beachfront setting alone makes it special, with beautiful sunsets that never get old. The area is truly teeming with life—you’ll see plenty of bird activity, and it’s not uncommon to spot dolphins swimming by. Watching cruise ships pass through the bay adds another unique and relaxing touch to the experience. There are tons of activities to stay active and enjoy the outdoors, including boating, paddleboarding, kayaking, and cycling. Whether you want adventure or just peaceful waterfront relaxation, this place delivers both. Overall, it’s a fantastic spot to park your RV, unwind, and take in the natural beauty of Tampa Bay. Clean, scenic, and full of things to do—highly recommended.

MacDill FamCamp is by far one of the best FamCamps we have ever stayed at. Sites are level, concrete, most have full hook ups, 50 & 30 amps. Where are here the first week of January '26 and there are still plenty of sites. Atleast 5 just around we are. Atleast 2 dog parks and 2 large playgrounds for kids, beach access (swimming not allowed). 2 friendly camp hosts on premises.

This is the 1st time I had used FamCamp at Macdill. It was nice for the money and we had a good time. Unfortunately is was very hot and the base pool is closed and the beach water had a high bacteria level. Miss Linda was awesome with our intake and very patient as we had to pull up documents to supply. I give Miss Linda a 5 star rating!!

No see-um bugs eat you up. Cable inoperative, Wi-Fi inoperative during my visit in late December. The washroom was decent, toilet overflowing and shut down for days. The washers were inoperative. The Famcamp staff in the office has 1 rude, condescending employee. The camp host was excellent! The sites are small and crowded. We found several state parks much more attractive for only a few dollars more. I like the area but won't return there again
