Military Park Solomons Island Navy Recreation Area (NRC Solomons)

Overview

The Navy Recreation Center (NRC) Solomons is a premier waterfront destination designed specifically for military families, retirees, and DoD civilians. Spanning over 200 acres along the scenic Patuxent River, this facility provides a high-quality camping experience that balances relaxation with active recreation. As a military-only facility, it offers a secure and community-focused environment where guests can enjoy the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay region while staying in well-maintained accommodations that cater to modern RV needs.

Location & Surroundings

Located at the southern tip of Calvert County in Solomons, Maryland, the park is positioned where the river meets the bay. The surroundings are defined by a lush, coastal landscape and a deep connection to maritime history. The area is famous for its picturesque boardwalks and tranquil water views, providing a refreshing escape from the metropolitan bustle of nearby Washington D.C. and Baltimore. The park’s geography allows for cool river breezes and incredible views of the sunset over the water.

Amenities & Park Features

The RV park features spacious sites equipped with full hookups, including water, sewer, and electricity, accommodating a variety of rig sizes. One of the standout features is the massive adventure pool complex, which includes water slides and a splash park for children. For those looking to get on the water, the on-site marina offers boat rentals, fishing piers, and crabbing opportunities. Guests also have access to clean laundry facilities, modern bathhouses, a miniature golf course, and multiple playgrounds located throughout the grounds.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Just a short drive from the park entrance is the charming town of Solomons, known for its locally-owned seafood restaurants and boutiques. Travelers should not miss the Calvert Marine Museum, which features the historic Drum Point Lighthouse and fascinating exhibits on local marine life. Nature lovers will enjoy the nearby Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center, while those seeking a day on the sand can visit Flag Ponds Nature Park for beachcombing and hiking trails along the bay cliffs.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal match for active military families who prioritize on-site activities and child-friendly amenities. It is a fantastic choice for anglers and boaters who want immediate access to the river and bay without leaving the campground. Because the park offers a resort-style atmosphere with structured activities, it is best suited for travelers who enjoy a social camping experience rather than those seeking primitive seclusion. The process on getting your guests onto the facility is really bad. You now have to put all of your guests in one vehicle because the third party company does not issue the gate passes in time. The bungalows have mice in them, the air conditioning systems are full of mold and look like they have never been serviced. The WiFi is bad, the tennis courts look like the Chernobyl aftermath, the fishing is really bad now as well.

From the moment we booked our lodging reservation, The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and stress-free, reaching out proactively to confirm details, accommodate our requests, and ensure everything was in order before we even entered our accommodation. Check-in was smooth, and every team member we interacted with was friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely committed to great service. It’s rare to find a place where the staff cares this much—not just about the property, but about the guests as people. Carrie and Joan you guys rock big-time. The lodging itself was clean, cozy, and well-maintained, offering exactly what we needed and more. It’s the kind of experience that makes you feel like more than just a reservation number. We highly recommend staying here and truly appreciate the thoughtful, proactive approach of the entire team. It made all the difference.

It’s was just ok. I have been coming to Solomons for over 20 years and the place now compared to then is unkept, run down, and needs TLC. Staff and MPs were professional and nice but the tennis courts, dock, and housing. Tennis courts are cracked with weeds growing, dock feels rickety when you walk in it. I was preparing myself to fall through. Boards are splintering. Outdoor bathrooms have no running water so it was filled to the top with human waste and toilet paper. Disgusting! Housing was spacious but again smelled mold, ramps were old and wood needed replacing and not the cleanest inside. Disappointed in what this place has become, RV storage area.?

My family and I stayed here recently and loved it. We stayed in the 3 bed 2 bath cottage. It was clean, well equipped with towels and kitchen amenities. It is a short walk from the cottages to the beach which was completely empty in the off season. It is one of the more peaceful places I have stayed. There is also a laundromat on site. The only bummer on coming during the off season was that most of the activities were closed. We were able to play mini golf but the course had not been maintained. The pool looked nice but was closed. And we were not able to rent any water craft. The staff was super nice. We did a late check in. For others awareness to do this notify the gate guard upon entry and they will call the after hours host. Also when we needed to stay an extra night due to a travel delay the manager was able to do so and keep us In The same unit. In the future we want to try the historical cottages as they are closest to the water. And also the tent camping area. There are basketball courts and tennis courts and plenty of walking trails. It is such a peaceful getaway I can’t wait to come back. Some of the furnishings are outdated but all are clean and functional. It would also be nice if they pressure washed the deck before arrival or provide a hose as ours was coated in pollen so we did not use it much. There are also bbq grills at each site.

Not recommended and stay away from this place. It is poorly managed, managers at the office are rude. They discriminate against retired veterans and disabled veterans. Very poorly managed and the bath house arent sanitary / dirty, full of bugs , grass is always up to your ankle, the gate vs. the office have two different policies at all times. These people who run this place are being paid by our tax dollars but don’t serve their retired veterans. Cops at the gate also believe they have more authority than the POTUS. They allow sites with electrical & sewage to be submerged in water. See photos for your safety. save your money.
