Mississippi River - Pools 11-22 - COE/Grant River

Overview

The Grant River Recreation Area, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, offers a serene riverside camping experience in Potosi, Wisconsin. Located on the banks of Pool 11 of the Mississippi River, this park combines natural beauty with practical amenities for RVers. It is a favored spot for those looking to experience the driftless region's unique geography while enjoying easy access to one of the country's most iconic waterways.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in the southwestern corner of Wisconsin, the park sits directly along the Great River Road, a National Scenic Byway. The landscape is characterized by limestone bluffs and the expansive waters of the Mississippi. Guests can enjoy the sight of barges passing through the river or catch a sunset over the water. Its proximity to the town of Potosi adds a touch of local history and small-town charm to the rustic setting.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features 73 campsites, including several with 50-amp electrical hookups suitable for larger RVs. While there are no sewer hookups at individual sites, a convenient on-site dump station and fresh water fill-up are available for guests. Travelers appreciate the following park features:

  • Clean restroom and shower facilities
  • A well-maintained playground for families
  • A dedicated boat launch for immediate river access

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

A visit to the nearby Potosi Brewing Company is a highlight for many, as it houses the National Brewery Museum and offers local dining. Outdoor enthusiasts often spend their time fishing for walleye and bass or birdwatching, as the area is a prime spot for spotting Bald Eagles. The nearby Dickeyville Grotto offers a unique cultural stop, while the river itself provides endless opportunities for kayaking and boating through the intricate channels of the Mississippi.

Who This Park Is Best For

This recreation area is ideal for anglers and boaters who want to be steps away from the water. It also appeals to travelers seeking a quiet, scenic stopover while exploring the Great River Road. Now I don't give 5 stars to just any review. UPDATE:: Staying in sight 48 south loop. Bring 200 feet of hose or bring water with you. Very difficult to get water to the RV. fill up at the entrance or any Faust you find along the way. This RV campground is a hidden gem.. literally, you gotta hunt for this one. Over hills along the river. Till there it is. Concrete slabs (level concrete slabs) electric and water. Bring your own firewood. The trees were fabulous. This is 3 miles from the Poposi brewing company. 35 minutes from Galena..

It is a lovely and quiet campground Loved all the dogs people brought as family members. The view is great of the river. The train comes by all day and night and is loud but we actually love that part of it. Now for the bath houses. Had to shower in the handicapped side because the other had no light. The handi one was dirty with an accumulation of bugs. The water cannot be turned to hot or cold so it was so hot I was almost burned .Its just a button. These womens bathroom need some remodeling. To me they were a mess.

Great camping, site flat, most have concrete pads. 4 stars because of the trains. Water sources are plentful, many sites have access to water, you may need a long hose depending on your site. The train tracks are loud, and trains go 24 hours, and the horns blow. However, when no trains are very quiet, there is no light pollution. Gnats were bad in late May. Easy into Potosi, check out the Breweries, and shop across the street. The Driftless area is great to explore.

Nice campground on the Mississippi River. Town is cute. The winery is nice and the brewery museum is small but nice. There is a near by attraction called the Dickeyville Grotto and Shrines that is worth visiting. I added a few pictures.
