Moffitt Lake Rec Area

Overview

Moffitt Lake Recreation Area offers a peaceful, water-centric escape in the heart of Union County. Centered around a scenic 52-acre lake, this park provides a quiet atmosphere for travelers looking to disconnect from the digital world. Unlike busy commercial resorts, this county-managed destination focuses on the authentic natural beauty of Western Kentucky. It serves as a community hub for outdoor recreation, where the sound of the wind through the trees and the gentle ripple of the water take center stage, creating a truly restful environment for every visitor.

Location & Surroundings

Located just outside Morganfield, KY, the park is nestled among rolling hills and lush woodlands that characterize the Ohio River Valley region. The surrounding landscape is largely agricultural and rural, offering a sense of seclusion that is hard to find at larger highway-side parks. The air is fresh, and because there is minimal light pollution, the night skies are remarkably clear for stargazing. Visitors will appreciate the easy access to the small-town charm of Morganfield for local supplies while still feeling miles away from the hustle of modern city life.

Amenities & Park Features

The park features well-maintained RV sites equipped with water and 30/50-amp electrical hookups to accommodate various rig sizes. While the sites are designed for simplicity and nature-focused camping, the park provides a convenient dump station for self-contained units. Recreational amenities are plentiful and include:

  • An 18-hole disc golf course that challenges players through wooded terrain
  • A public boat ramp for electric-motor watercraft and kayaks
  • A stocked lake perfect for catching bass, bluegill, and catfish
  • Multiple picnic shelters and a playground for family gatherings

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Beyond the lake, the surrounding area offers plenty of exploration for the adventurous traveler. The Ohio River is just a short drive away, providing additional boating opportunities and scenic riverfront views. Nature lovers can head to the nearby Higginson-Henry Wildlife Management Area for extensive hiking trails and birdwatching. For a taste of local history and culture, the city of Henderson is within driving distance, offering the John James Audubon State Park and a variety of local dining options that highlight Kentucky hospitality.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is ideal for nature lovers and anglers who prefer a rustic, quiet environment over high-energy resort amenities. It is a perfect fit for families seeking an affordable weekend getaway where kids can play freely and explore the outdoors in a safe, community-focused setting. If you are an RVer who enjoys a slower pace of life and the simplicity of a lakeside campsite, Moffitt Lake Recreation Area will certainly feel like a hidden gem during your Western Kentucky travels.

The bathrooms were clean, and so was the grounds and the lake. The boat ramp was easy to put the boat in as well. The people at the office was super friendly and helpful. Will be going back even though I dont like the outdoors lol

The campground is a beautiful place! It is, for the most part, a quiet, peaceful place to stay. The fishing is included in the camp reservation, otherwise you pay to fish. They have two bath houses, with two bathrooms and one shower. The door is not very privacy minded. They have two nice playgrounds, a shop at the check in area, two dump stations, a smaller trail and kayaks/paddle boats to rent. There are spots to camp right along the bank, which is perfect for the fisherman. The only reason I am giving this place a 4 star out of 5 is because when help was needed with an unruly neighbor, no help was to be found. They give you a sheet with a promise to handle things and three numbers to call, only no body picked up on either. Disappointing! It ruined part of our stay, having drunken people blast their music is not a good way to spend a Saturday evening.

Peaceful well maintained grounds! Camper lots are large and great value. Cabins to rent were spacious and look new.
