Monkman Park

Overview

Monkman Provincial Park offers a raw, untouched wilderness experience deep within the Hart Ranges of the northern Rocky Mountains. Spanning over 62,000 hectares, this park is a sanctuary for those looking to escape the crowded tourist corridors. It is most famous for the dramatic Kinuseo Falls, which drop 60 meters into a mist-filled canyon. The atmosphere here is quiet and deeply connected to nature, providing a rugged and majestic backdrop for an authentic North American road trip.

Location & Surroundings

Situated approximately 60 kilometers south of Tumbler Ridge, BC, the park is accessed via a well-maintained gravel forestry road. The journey leads travelers through dense coniferous forests and steep mountain landscapes where sightings of grizzly bears, moose, and caribou are relatively common. The park encompasses the upper reaches of the Murray River, offering a stunning mix of alpine ridges, deep valleys, and pristine water features that define the remote Peace River region.

Amenities & Park Features

The Kinuseo Falls campground provides a rustic setting for RVers who enjoy a back-to-basics approach. While there are no hookups or electricity, the park offers 42 spacious, vehicle-accessible campsites nestled among the spruce and pine trees. Basic amenities include the following:

  • Pit toilets located conveniently throughout the camping loops.
  • Hand-pumped well water for basic needs.
  • Individual fire rings and sturdy picnic tables at every site.

The layout is designed for privacy, ensuring that your RV feels like a private cabin in the woods.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

The primary draw is the short trail to the Kinuseo Falls viewpoint, where the sheer power of the water is palpable. Adventurous travelers can hike the Monkman Cascade Trail, which leads past a series of stunning waterfalls, or venture into the Tumbler Ridge Global Geopark to view world-renowned dinosaur trackways. The area is also excellent for fishing in the Murray River, backcountry hiking, and landscape photography of the dramatic limestone cliffs and mountain peaks.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal destination for self-sufficient RV travelers who prefer "boondocking" style setups and off-the-grid living. It appeals most to outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, and wildlife photographers who prioritize natural beauty over modern luxury amenities. If you are seeking a remote wilderness retreat far away from cell service and city noise, Monkman Park offers the perfect rugged escape for your next northern adventure.

Over the last 3-4 years we have been traveling to Tumbler Ridge. We Always stay at Monkman RV Park. Terry Lynn is an amazing Park attendant with attention to detail & great memory. She's very accommodating regardless if its wintertime or Summertime. Showers & Laundry on site very clean. Grounds very well maintained. Looking forward to our next visit in the Spring.

We loved our stay at Monkman RV this week! The Camp host Terry is super nice and very accommodating. The bathrooms/showers are among the best we’ve ever had - private shower rooms, very clean and cheap - $1 for 10 minutes. We could connect to cell-service here. Central location to base out of. Initially we weren’t sure about staying because of how open it is… but we were treated to a beautiful sunset our first night there and had the best stay - we will def be back! P.S. Make sure you stop at Lush Desserts Bakery in town for some delicious treats!

Came for a day and stayed for a week. Facilities are very clean, affordable and quiet. The camp Hostess was friendly and informative, taking great pride in her park and community. We couldn’t ask for a nicer place to stay in Tumbler Ridge.

We stay at this campground since 2021. I have to say that there is a great spot to check the beautiful sunset. The location is great, can walk to town on the trail. The campground is very clean. Washrooms, showers, laundry room all well maintained. I had an issue with my neighbor, the manager Terry fix it really easier, I was a happy camper ! The friendly Terry made my stay very confortable and safe. Hope to go back this year. The only drawback is there is not enough trees, for shade or more privacy between campsite.

This was one of the best campgrounds we have been to. This place is well maintained, the groundskeep is very polite and helpful with anything needed. The cleanliness of the whole facility is amazing. We will definitely be visiting again.
