Overview

Montague Harbour Marine Provincial Park serves as a premier destination for travelers seeking the natural beauty of the Gulf Islands. Known for its iconic white shell beach and tranquil waters, the park offers a peaceful retreat on Galiano Island. It provides a unique blend of forest and shoreline, making it a highly sought-after location for those who appreciate the scenic West Coast landscape and a slower pace of travel.

Location & Surroundings

Nestled on the western side of Galiano Island, the park overlooks a protected bay that is a favorite for boaters and kayakers alike. The surroundings are defined by towering Douglas firs and peeling arbutus trees, with the famous Gray Peninsula forming a protective arm around the harbor. Visitors can explore the sheltered shoreline, where the calm waters reflect the vibrant colors of British Columbia sunsets, creating a truly serene coastal environment.

Amenities & Park Features

This park offers a rustic experience with vehicle-accessible campsites that can accommodate small to medium-sized RVs. While there are no electrical or water hookups available, the park provides essential facilities including potable water stations and well-maintained pit toilets. Each site features a picnic table and fire ring. RVers should be prepared for dry camping while enjoying the quiet atmosphere and the convenience of the on-site boat launch.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

Outdoor enthusiasts can spend their days kayaking in the bay or hiking the Gray Peninsula Loop Trail, which offers stunning views of the surrounding islands. The nearby Montague Harbour dock is a hub of activity, where visitors can find seasonal transportation or food services. Exploring the wider Galiano Island community reveals local artisan studios and additional hiking trails at Mount Galiano for those seeking a panoramic vista of the Salish Sea.

Who This Park Is Best For

Montague Harbour is ideal for travelers who prefer a natural, rustic camping experience over a resort-style stay. It is best suited for owners of smaller RVs, camper vans, or truck campers who value proximity to the ocean and forest. Wonderful park with a lot of outdoor activities to enjoy hiking, biking or camping. Has an easy comfortable trail to reach the gorgeous white sandy beach. Enjoyed admiring the amazing views, watching the sailing boats, the serene ocean, and flying birds until sunset. It was a rewarding and relaxing feeling to commune with nature.

This is our family’s favourite campsite. Historic and beautiful white shell beaches formed from a midden where Indigenous people used to harvest shellfish. Stunning sunsets, diverse choice of campsites, and a lot of nature to explore from ocean, forest, bog to bioluminescence, seals, eagles and more. We’ve been coming here for almost twenty years. A gem on Galiano Island. Don’t worry if you can’t reserve. There is usually room in the field.

10/10 the best Harbour Marine Park I’ve ever been to on Galiano Island. Also possibly the only one. The trails are wonderful and relaxed and shady while still providing amazing views of the water. It’s fun to watch sailboats stroll into the bay and weigh anchor. I had a wonderful time on the beach where the beautiful white sand is actually just a million smoothed out sea shells! It’s a beautiful place.

Excellent place for some biking, boating, and hiking as well camping in some areas. Beautiful park with a lot to see. Very quiet and serene, lush vegetation with trees that seem to reach into the sky. I've never seen a beach made of shells before, it was an awesome experience. The water is very calm and clear, take the time to walk in the water and on the beach. Stop and check out the cool marine life during low tide.
