Montgomery Bell
Overview
Montgomery Bell State Park, located in Burns, Tennessee, offers a unique blend of historical significance and natural beauty. Once the center of the iron industry in Middle Tennessee, the park now serves as a lush escape for travelers. The landscape is defined by rolling hills and quiet woodlands, providing a peaceful backdrop for those seeking a transition from the highway to the forest. With its diverse ecosystem and three distinct lakes, the park successfully balances its industrial heritage with modern recreational opportunities for RV enthusiasts.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Dickson County, the park is conveniently positioned just off Highway 70 and is easily accessible from Interstate 40. Its proximity to Nashville makes it a popular choice for travelers who want to visit the city while staying in a serene, wooded environment. The surrounding area of Burns and nearby Dickson provides a small-town feel, while the park itself feels like a deep wilderness. The heavily forested terrain provides excellent shade and a sense of privacy that is often missing from more urbanized RV parks.
Amenities & Park Features
The campground is well-suited for modern RVers, featuring full hookup sites that include water, sewer, and electricity. Many of the sites can accommodate larger rigs, though the terrain is naturally varied. Visitors have access to clean bathhouses with hot showers and laundry facilities, making longer stays much more comfortable. Beyond the campsites, the park boasts an on-site par-72 golf course and a full-service restaurant within the park lodge. Each site typically includes a picnic table and a grill, encouraging outdoor dining amidst the Tennessee hardwoods.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty to do without ever leaving the park boundaries. There are over 20 miles of hiking trails, ranging from easy strolls to the challenging overnight trail. Water activities are a major draw, with fishing and paddling available on the lakes. For history buffs, the park features the first Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a replica of the log cabin where the denomination was founded. Additionally, the scenic swim beach on Lake Acorn is a favorite spot for families during the warmer summer months.
Who This Park Is Best For
This park is an ideal match for nature-loving families and outdoor adventurers who prioritize recreation over resort-style commercial amenities. It is a fantastic choice for RVers who enjoy a state park vibe but still require the convenience of modern utilities. Golfers will particularly appreciate having a professional course just minutes from their campsite. Whether you are a solo traveler seeking a quiet retreat or a family looking for multi-day hiking adventures, Montgomery Bell provides a balanced and scenic Tennessee experience.

Our son and daughter-in-law were married here a week ago and Rachel, Shawn, Tina, Amber, and Courtney made this a wonderful weekend! They were so sweet and constantly checked in with us to make sure every detail was taken care of and greeted any guest with welcome arms. Rachel was there the entire weekend making sure we were happy and we can’t say enough about this wonderful individual who is so upbeat, fun, detailed oriented, and has a heart to serve. It was really a blessing to have their wedding at this park! It was so nice to have all the guest at the hotel, and their food, bar, trails, and outdoor activities made it wonderful. All our guest loved the welcome & karaoke party on Friday night then Saturday to do activities at the park and then the wedding on Saturday evening. Thanks to all the wonderful staff at Montgomery Bell as it was a beautiful and fun wedding!

Very helpful and friendly staff at the gift shop. There was also a ranger and she helped me answer my questions. I reached at 4 and it is their closing time. They still talked and answered my questions patiently. It is nice park but Lake wodhaven did not have water flowing. That is what I went there for. It has restaurant on site as well. I will visit again once we have water flowing through the stairs.

This park is awesome... There are some nice hiking trails and some good views along the way... There are some cool picnic areas and random spots to sit and BBQ... I'm definitely gonna be back often to explore more of what this park has to offer
Up Town
We had a great visit. We had our family reunion here and wow, that the staff and a facility treat us. Well, we were very humble by there. Due diligence of how things were up being handled and humbled by there. Generosity, so thank you to the staff on the Montgomery bell state park. Facility a ton of things to do a ton of trails to walk. We were very pleased with our room. The cleanliness, the hotel was just a plus parking was great and plentiful. There's a small beach. What surprised me? The kids really enjoyed it. Not my kids, but I saw other kids. There My kids are grown, but they probably still would enjoy it. And the sand was white. It's a white sandy beach. Small area to swim, though. So I don't think you're going to, you know, come there and swim like in the oceans or Olympic pool or anything. Just basically just to cool off, then lay back on the beach. It was more for little kids than anything. I'll just come out and say it. But the kayaks, roboats, paddle boards, no motorized vehicle, of course. A lot of picnic areas, and you can barbecue. All in all it was, we had a great time. Total recommendation.
