A Welcoming Gem for Budget Travelers in Republic After discovering that many state land trails and even primitive campsites now charge fees, finding this spot was a truly amazing surprise. I really appreciate the city of Republic for offering such a safe, clean, and beautiful place for budget-conscious travelers to camp. The road into the campground is a bit rough, but any vehicle can handle it if you take your time and pay attention. In fact, the gravel road is actually in better shape than the paved one leading in. Just relax and enjoy the drive, knowing a lovely campground awaits. When I visited in early August, there were plenty of open campsites, but they were first-come, first-served, so keep that in mind. You'll find a donation box halfway around the loop; if you can, please leave a donation to show your appreciation for this wonderful resource. I managed to snag one of only two campsites with a picnic table, but all sites have fire rings and can accommodate tents or vehicles. They offer a mix of sun and shade, with some good spots for solar power. While I personally wouldn't swim here, I'm sure others do, and it looks like a great spot for kayak fishing with a convenient boat ramp. There's just a good vibe about the place – nothing fancy, but it feels like a genuinely relaxing and welcoming spot to unwind. There were a lot of mosquitoes, but the off with picaridin and burning those cheap green things that keep mosquitoes away seemed to work pretty good, plus there were less here than many other places. Rarely do I give 5☆s to anything - this rating is due mostly to the kindness of the community for providing it in an area that seems ridiculously overpriced and demands too much for too little.

Moose Rapids. Alot could be said about this place. The fact it's down a long road in the middle of nowhere. To the point you think it doesn't exist. But continue forward and you'll find it. It's a place you can donate to stay, but don't have to. (Highly recommended you do!) Just make sure you keep it cleaner than when you arrived. As to respect the hard working people who care for this piece of heaven. Reasons to camp here. You're surrounded by nature at its finest. Where you'll feel connected to the world around you once again. To remind yourself of what the world has given us. Looking for somewhere beautiful, quiet, and peaceful. This spot is perfect. Perfect for camping by the fire and breathing in smog-free air. While roasting marshmallows with your family or friends. Swimming in the river, (bring your water shoes! Rocks hurt!) Or simply taking a walk and enjoying the beauty nature has to offer. And the view! It's so stunning and you feel so free. This place is definitely going to get another visit from me. I wish I could rate it higher. The locals were super sweet and nice!!! The only cons I had here were the mosquitos and horse flies. But bring the right things to keep em away and they aren't as bothersome. I hope you consider this place and if you do I beg you treat it better than any other camp ground you've been to. So the next people who come come visit can have amazing time here as well.

Awesome free campsites. Maybe 10 total? Half xl, half normal sized sites. Right on moving water. Yes, lots of bugs like anywhere but not the worst I've seen. 6 miles off the main road. 5 miles are residential/paved (but watch for damage from flooding) and the last mile is dirt/gravel. Easy in any car.

Great out of the way camping. Not many people. Fresh cold water from a hand pump and close to the river.

My best friend and I stopped here for a few days and it was beautiful! It's free unless you want to make a $5 donation, the bathrooms are pretty decent, and the scenery is beautiful! We didn't see any moose or bears, but there was still plenty of wildlife. There were a ton of deer/horse flies that were kind of annoying but with enough bug spray and citronella candles they weren't too bad to deal with.
