Moreau Lake
Overview
Moreau Lake State Park offers a peaceful retreat nestled between the Adirondack foothills and the vibrant culture of Saratoga Springs. This expansive park is defined by its scenic hardwood forest and the crystal-clear waters of the lake itself. It provides a serene environment where the sounds of nature replace the hum of the city, making it a favorite for travelers seeking a true New York wilderness experience. The park is widely recognized for its clean facilities and well-preserved natural beauty.
Location & Surroundings
Situated in Gansevoort, NY, the park is conveniently located near major highways while feeling worlds away from modern distractions. The terrain features dramatic rocky ridges and dense groves of pine and oak that create a sense of privacy at each campsite. Its position along the Hudson River corridor provides a unique geographic transition from the rolling hills of the south to the rugged mountains of the north, offering diverse landscapes for visitors to explore.
Amenities & Park Features
The camping area is designed for those who enjoy a traditional outdoor experience, as the sites are dry camping only without electric or water hookups. However, the park offers a convenient on-site dump station and multiple pressurized water access points for RVers to refill their tanks. Guests can enjoy a wide sandy swimming beach, well-maintained bathhouses with hot showers, and a nature center that hosts educational programs throughout the summer season.
Nearby Attractions & Things to Do
The park’s location is a major draw, providing easy access to the Saratoga Race Course and high-end dining in downtown Saratoga Springs. Outdoor recreation is abundant within the park boundaries, with over 20 miles of multi-use trails available for hiking and mountain biking. During the winter, these same trails are popular for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, making it a versatile year-round destination for active travelers and nature photographers.
Who This Park Is Best For
This destination is ideal for adventurous RVers who prefer a rustic, natural feel over a commercial resort-style environment. It is a wonderful choice for family vacations focused on swimming, kayaking, and fishing in a safe and quiet setting. Since the sites can accommodate various rig sizes but lack power and water at the site, it is best for those who travel in self-contained units and value deep woods tranquility.

Very well maintained park. Very quiet and convenient to various attractions. My only complaint is that the shower did not have hot water. It was tepid at best after 5 minutes running.

Moreau has a beautiful beach area, boat / kayak rentals, modern playground, lots of wooded sites, fishing and numerous trails throughout....serene & woody. Extremely clean & convenient bathrooms & showers. No matter where your site is, there's a path to a bathroom!! ❤️ Ample fire pits too!

One thing that the government of NY does well is provide and maintain their state parks! Moreau State Park is no exception.. Located in the foothills of the Adirondack mountains it boasts beautiful scenery with abundant facilities. You can camp, hike, picnic or simply just enjoy a day swimming with a beach. There are kayaks/canoes to rent. You can find picnic tables with hibachi grills and ample beach space to just hang out and relax. Very enjoyable place to go on a summer day!

This is one of my family's favorite spots for swimming in the lake and grilling. We have hosted many barbecue gatherings here! Recently we rented on of the party pavillions for a birthday which came with extra picnic tables and a larger sized grill. We had a great time! The lake is gorgeous and it's also a lovely spot for camping, kayaking, or walking along the trails. Always a good time!
