Mormon Trail Park (Adair County Park)

Overview

Mormon Trail Park, managed by the Adair County Conservation Board, offers a serene escape into the heart of rural Iowa. Spanning 170 acres near Bridgewater, this park is centered around the beautiful 35-acre Mormon Trail Lake. It provides a classic Midwestern outdoor experience where the pace of life slows down significantly. Visitors often appreciate the well-maintained grounds and the sense of seclusion that only a high-quality county park can offer to those looking to disconnect.

Location & Surroundings

Situated in southwest Iowa, the park is characterized by rolling hills and lush prairies. The location is named for its proximity to the historic route taken by early pioneers across the plains. Surrounded by fertile farmland and small communities, the environment is incredibly quiet. The lake itself is the focal point, framed by mature trees that provide shade and a habitat for local wildlife, making it a perfect spot for nature photography and bird watching during your stay.

Amenities & Park Features

RV travelers will find comfortable accommodations with electrical hookups available at several sites across the campground. The park features modern amenities including a shower house, restrooms, and a dump station for convenience. For recreation, the park boasts a sandy swimming beach, multiple picnic shelters, and a playground for children. Anglers can utilize the boat ramp to access the lake, which is well-stocked with bass, bluegill, and catfish for a productive afternoon on the water.

Nearby Attractions & Things to Do

While the park is a destination in itself, the surrounding area offers charming small-town experiences. A short drive takes you to Greenfield, where you can visit the Warren Cultural Center or explore local shops. History buffs will enjoy the Iowa Aviation Museum or touring the various historical markers along the original Mormon Trail. Outdoor enthusiasts can also explore the hiking trail system within the park boundaries, which offers scenic views of the water and woodland areas.

Who This Park Is Best For

This park is an ideal choice for families and weekend campers looking for a safe, engaging environment for children to play and swim. It is also a prime destination for avid anglers who prefer the quietude of a lake restricted to electric motors only. If you are an RVer who avoids crowded commercial resorts in favor of natural beauty and a peaceful, rustic atmosphere, Mormon Trail Park will fit your travel style perfectly.

It's ok , but camper spots are very small. Dont go there with anything but a small camper, you won't fit

One of the BEST county parks in Iowa! (Imo) I've been going there since I was a little kid quite well kept and not set up for the big rigs helps keep it great that way, nice beach and new bathrooms and shower houses. And further more won't break the bank to stay more than a day. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PARK
